Outlook Question
 

How do you get Outlook to move a flagged spam and adult content to the deleted items folder? I turned on spam filter but all it does is change the color of the mail and does nothing to it. I hope I don't have to create a rule for each spam sender.

Check out the free software at mailfiler.com. I haven't used it yet, I came across it when searching for something else last week, I am hoping it will do what it says it will and handle the junk mail.

Not sure how long it's free, but the paperwork says it's only $30 for a single user.

Symantec and others filter all your mail and attaches the words Spam alert to the subject of all potential spam so you can filter it out.

Which will work best depends if you are retriving your mail from a local server or using outlook as a ckient to your isp.

Check the "from" box

Enter next

Check the "delete" box

and hit "Finish"

You will have to manually delete the message you just flagged, but all future messages from that e-mail address will be deleted.

Unfortunately spammers are smarter than Outlook. Xl0.com is one of dumber ones, they only change the address every week, so you get rid of a week's worth and have to do it again. Some use a different one for each mailing.

I had the exact same problem you have: it was very difficult and cumbersome to keep all the filters up with all the new spam messages, especially those with non discript subjects and other tricks spammers use these days.

I started using Mailwasher which will scan your incoming mail before you start up Outlook. It has all kind of standard filters to catch spam and uses an online list of known spammers. The program will show you a list of your new emails and marks the spam mails it detected. You then have the choice to add or remove mail from that spam list (either on a individual bases or by adding senders to a "friend" or "spam" list). The program can also send a bounce message to the sender of the spam stating that your email address does not exist.
After that mailwasher will automatically start up outlook where you will only see the non-spam mails.

The program is free and works great for me: easy and simple to use. I don't have a link on hand but if you Google a little (or look on download.com) I'm sure it will be no problem to find a download site.

That should take care of it. You can do the same thing for messages flagged as Adult.

If you are using outlook's built in filters you can also download filters from them. Directions are at:

I wouldn't set them to delete the messages, they sometimes catch something you want, I'd put them in a junk mail folder so you can glance at them before deleting.

Even better is a product called SpamNet. Download a free copy. It automatically scans your in-box and moves suspected spam to the spam folder. You can then delete the spam later.

I recommend it.
