Star Tac help...

My two plus year old Star Tac works fine except I broke the litte half moon on the back. This piece is needed to "lock" the phone into my hands free system for my car. Without it, the phone sits on the cradle and does not exert enough pressure to activate the speaker. I have 2 of these with different service, so I swap them in and out depending on location and number of minutes left in my plans. I went to my Sprint store, and they obviously don't sell the phone anymore and are unable to help.

I'm looking for either an old phone that I can somehow swap out the whole back piece or remove the half moon and attach it to my existing phone with crazy glue.

Any other options. I tried to adapt the cradle with tape to hold down the speaker contacts, but I was not successful.

I really don't want to upgrade to a new phone and go the headset route.

Buy a used one on eBay?

Agree that eBay may be your best bet. Lot's for sale there. Or drop by a cell phone repair place. They may have lots of dead shells sitting around.

Crazy glue...I'm not so sure it would hold. Kinda like a broken back scratcher...no matter what you do, it's never the same!

I had that problem several years ago myself as I also had the in-car hands free kit. That piece broke off three times in under a year. Fortunately, Motorola HQ was in the Chicagoland area and I was able to wait while they fixed it. It would have taken 2-6 weeks if I had went through the dealer(warranty). Those things break way to easily.
The car kit made it worth it until I sold the car and changed phones.

Dugernaut - Many, many thanks for your post!! My wife had exactly the same thing happen to her StarTac, and I had kind of forgotten about the issue. On the other hand, she's a "marginal" driver without the cell phone to her ear, so I'd much prefer if I could fix the "half moon" too.....

I think the Ebay route is a great idea!!

Best wishes, Dave

Screw Ebay, the independent phone guy a 1/2 mile away replaced it for 5 bucks. Yippee!!

It took him less than five minutes, and he has plenty more. Problem solved, but thanks for everyone's advise.
