Wireless network by location

Hello everyone! Today I am buying a Linksys wireless notebook network adapter PC-card for my laptop (it is for 54Mbps). I know that certain airports, Satrbucks, and other locations provide free wireless netwrok connectivity. My question is how can I find out where this is offered nationwide. I live in Atlanta, but travel on business and leisure to San Francisco, Pasadena, San Juan, Lima, Buenos Aires, so it would be nice to know where to go in these cities for wireless networking.

Question: is there one good national guide or website (or several regional guides) where I can find the locations that offer this service?

Thanks!!!

As for T-Mobile, check here...

There are several providers - where you need a subscription.

Tmobile does SOME airport lounges/airports and all Starbucks; go to:

http://www.t-mobile.com/hotspot/

There is no equivalent of "ipass" in mass use today for roaming onto another hotspot operator. This will likely happen in the future... just don't hold your breath.

Normally when you see a public hotspot - you can open up your browser and then go to anywebsite - you will be re-directed to the hotspot operator's sign/up login in site. You can get more info on who runs the hotspot/pricing etc.

There are some free hotspots as well or public hotspots being run by private people.

Also, which Linksys card did you get??

Another excellent resource:

www.wifinder.com

This shows almost ALL networks in one handy site.

Everyone, thanks so much! I can see that there are both paid and free access. Using wifinder.com, I can now see what's out there (at least some of it).

And many Borders bookstores.

I am very happy with my Tmobile service. While driving all over the central valley today, I stopped at 4 different Starbucks to check and send email. $29.95/month for all you can eat.

You know, it's frustrating. Minneapolis is a pretty wired city, yet there are exactly ZERO hotspots in the state of Minnesota other than the T-Mobile store in the Mall of America.

I really don't get it. I swear the Twin Cities is the most neglected area in the US when it comes to this stuff. There's all kinds of hotspots in Ann Arbor Michigan, but exactly zero in Minneapolis?? I don't get it. We were the last to get GSM cell phone coverage (and it still sucks), we have no hotspots (and it's been that way for a while), and yet the Twin Cities is sitting at 2.5+ million people?? HELLO??!!

Oh great. I just checked the Starbucks list. There's a hotspot in Alamo Heights, Texas. ALAMO HEIGHTS TEXAS?! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!!!!!!!!!!!
