I'm in HKG this week, I will price the 6XXX updates, P800 and the 3650 if anyone is interested and update it here.

Thanks Nick and MedEdGuy,

I for one would be most interested, particulary in both 61xx models..

Cheers

Get the SonyEricsson P800!

ScottC, you've corrupted me. Now that you got me interested in the P800, I'm totally hooked. The only problem is that they can't be had for love or money in the UK, except on Orange (and even then, there's a waiting list). Orange doesn't work for me (no coverage in my office building), so I'll need to find it on another carrier -- probably T-Mobile.

WAAAH. I WANT ONE NOW!

I'll price whatever GSM/GPRS models I see while I'm there.

Drop me an Email, I have the feeling I can get you one and have it there by mid next week... price is a bit over the odds but it's the real deal AND unlocked... they run about £700 and come with some neat extra kit.

Unfortunately it's not out yet. I'm due to have an eval unit from Nokia so I don't think production has even started yet.

Expansys has the P800 and I think some of the Nokias mentioned as well. They have U.S., U.K. and other country sites:

Price checked in Hong Kong today... ALL 3 retailers I went to (one near Central, one in Causeway Bay, one in Kowloon) had the SAME prices... Talk about the guys price comparing their competitors

(Rates to USD and Euro converted by Oanda interbank rate)

All prices are subsidy free. Meaning phones are SIM unlocked NO activation needed. (HENCE prices via a Europe or US network MAY BE cheaper, but when you buy a phone like that you are SIM locked and you are required to take a contract). All phones are Chinese/English unless noted (these phones below are APAC HK versions so NO Europe lanquages supported other than English)

Nokia 7650 3288HKD $421.09US 383.64EU

Nokia 7250 3688HKD $472.32US 430.31EU

Nokia 6100 3228HKD $413.40US 376.64EU

Nokia 6610 2588HKD $331.44US 301.96EU

Nokia 3650* 2998HKD $382.67US 349.81EU

*=3650 is Chinese lanquage version only! Arghh, go figure that Nokia did an APAC phone SOLD in Hong Kong that has NO english support. I was going to buy one today - but my Chinese ability is limited to 100 symbols http://www.flyertalk.com/travel/fttr...orum/smile.gif

Sorry, not many people were carrying the P800... No sign of other current Nokia phones.

Nick,

If you pick up a Chinese version, it can be flashed with English software. I had one of the first ones out and did this. It costs $50-$75 and takes about two days.

How you can use a T39 and call Motorola cr*p is beyond me...
there are no worse menu's on this planet than those created by Ericsson
When I switched from Siemens to Ericsson T39, it took me ten seconds to figure out the whole menu system. Very easy! When I tried a Nokia phone, the menu system confused me for hours...
(But now that Nokia has copied Ericsson's icon-based menu system, even I can use a Nokia...)

Another reason to use the T39: When you're sitting on a train moving through sparsely populated areas of a country, that external antenna is sure good to have whan you're trying to make a call. Nokia phones only work well as long as you are close to the base station.
Nokia are good at marketing, but their technology sucks!

NickP 1K Mar 9, 2003 4:03 am

Vunder31, how can you say that about Ericsson (Sony Ericsson) vs. Nokia. Each product has it's paticular merits, no need to bash the entire company. BTW: The T68 is the WORST internal antenna on ANY phone, Nokia's internal antenna's have NEVER been this bad (7210/7250, etc.)

Internaut Mar 9, 2003 12:39 pm

The T68 is getting on a bit so may not be the best choice available.

I've had a play with the 7210 and the P800 and both are very nice. The successor to the T68, the T610 will be out soon (see link below - v'nice looking phone with built in camera) and I will be chosing either that or the P800 to replace my T68/Handpspring Visor (with blue tooth, of course) combination. I think the P800 has everything I need though I worry about its handwriting recognition when composing the odd email.

Anyone who needs blue tooth out of the box that actually works needs to go for a Sonyericssion model. Nokia's support for Blue tooth is spotty to say the least.

What I would really like is a nice 3G video phone but they seem to be taking a while to arrive.

Talking about phones in general, I'm glad to see no one recommending those awful Microsoft powered phones.

Here is a link to the T610:

Don't be fooled by the Expansys store, they put a product on their page the DAY it's announced, they had the P800 on their site since last year march and have only now started to deliver them. The T610 announced to be announced at CeBit this week, knowing SE it will be around the summer when they start shipping.

As for the T68(i) antenna, perhaps it was a bad model, my T68's always had the best RF I've ever seen, most nokia models (especially their 33XX series) had dreadful RF.

How is the SE P800 form factor in real life? Also, is composing email as terrible as it appears it may be?
Rich
