Smartphone (Xfinity) that works outside US!

I have Samsung A50 4G phone with Xfinity!
Data did not work everywhere in Europe.
Still paid quite a bit to Xfinity!

This wonders me about:
- which phone should I carry for overseas trip?
- Will a 4G flip phone better or 3G Nokia international phone?
- Will eSim do the trick - who should I get it from? Will it work on any phone? Galaxy S21 FE?
- Should I buy a SIM overseas or sim and a phone?

It all depends on what you are trying to do. Likely a flip phone won't have (easily-used) data so I'm not sure why that or a 3G nokia would be an option.

If the phone is sim-locked to Xfinity, you need to either get it unlocked by them or get an unlocked phone if you want to use a mobile SIM.

See: https://www.xfinity.com/mobile/suppo...o-unlock-phone

* Phone paid in full
* At least 60 days since activation
* No outstanding bill
* Not reported stolen or missing or used for fraud

Also I'm curious about "paid quite a bit to Xfinity" and "Data did not work everywhere". Did you contact Xfinity regarding any roaming or other settings? Do you mean did not work anywhere, or did work some places and not others?

A quick search of the phone's specs seems to indicate the phone is capable of it. Looks like part of the way Comcast is going cheap is by reducing the roaming agreements.

On the Xfinity help page for international roaming, it said for Samsung phones, if you have trouble getting data, you may have to switch your roaming to "manual" and manually select a roaming provider.. and try them all one by one.
CarlTheWebmaster and KRSW like this.

The A50 dates to 2019, and does not have 5G bands, as the 4G name implies. European carriers are gradually implementing 5G service and you may have experienced poor service in an area that has been updated to 5G.

Also, my personal experience is, manual carrier selection is frequently necessary when roaming to achieve the best service at a particular location. This can vary within a country, region, or even a single city, depending upon carrier signals and your priority (Low Usually) on their towers.
