OT: Linux cloud backup solutions
 

I've been using CrashPlan to back up my home Linux server for years. Lately it seems to be behaving oddly: I recently added about 20GB of files and it suddenly said it had 950 GB of files to back up but never seemed to finish backing them up. I just happened to look today and it finally says it's done with the backup job. I'm wondering what other options are out there that people recommend.

• Backblaze would be nice but doesn't support Linux with its apps; instead I'd have to use Restic or some other tool. Not the end of the world but I'd like a nice GUI tool.
• iDrive.com looks promising and the price is right, but I've never heard of them and don't know how reliable/secure they are.
• rsync.net and borg seem like a nerdy solution but kinda expensive.

What are some other ideas that won't break the bank? Or thoughts on the above providers? Thanks

I’ve been using iDrive for years, and they saved my skin a few times :)

Their main advantage is you back up as many devices as you need.

I back up my NAS and MacMini nightly (this is the 3rd part of a 1-2-3 backup). You can also use their “sync” option for immediate backups - but I’ve never used this.

Have ya looked at their b2 script? Works pretty good...

I use B2 and Backblaze for my office and personal stuff, respectively. I do have a few friends who I've recommended iDrive to as it meets their needs better than Backblaze would, namely multiple computers/phones on one account. iDrive's service has done well for them, but I've heard horror stories about their lack of support if something does go wrong.

Hi, sorry to creep on this it just popped up as we were getting things back up to speed following our spin out as our own company.

It sounds like you were experiencing a verification scan (I can send the link once I've made more than 5 posts or if you google "Is my backup restarting CrashPlan" it should be the first link). It can appear as though the data suddenly isn't backed up but it's a byproduct of the way that we do our deduplication and the data is stored securely the entire time.
