Phone, iPad, Apple Watch, 1-2 power banks. Plus charging cables for all. I have an actual camera but don't always take it b/c phone so much easier. Oh and hearing aides, does that count?

Wow, no wonder why it takes so long to boars planes these days, people are brining everything. Essentials people, essentials!
and why a flashlight? Or GoPro oGoPop of 1-2 other cameras?
I only need noise canceling headphones, a device to watch tv/movies/stream because airlines are removing all hardware media from flights, spare battery for headphones.

Flashlights are surprisingly useful on an aircraft. On an airliner, they're great if you want light but don't want to annoy your seatmates with the overhead reading lamp or looking in whatever bag you stowed under the seat. If you drop something on the floor, lay the flashlight flat on the carpet and shine the light and anything sitting on the carpet will be very visible, along with all of the crumbs and other filth you'd wish you hadn't seen. I've also been on an airliner, stuck on the taxiway at night due to wx when the APU died.
On private/GA aircraft, the same reasons + inspecting the aircraft, and God-forbid if the aircraft ever goes down.
In hotels, I keep a flashlight with an illuminated power button on the nightstand.
At my temporary condo, there's been 46 power outages in the past year.

I'll second the flashlight necessity for daily use. I carry a Sofirn SC31 Pro and have a bunch of other spares around for "Just In Case". When traveling, I use one for a night light in hotel or cruise cabin bathrooms. They will run for weeks on a single charge and mine have magnetic tailcaps, so they can be mounted easily to fixtures in hotels or cabin walls on ships. Rechargeable with built in USB C charger port and a 21650 battery for hours of bright LED light, but adjustable down to 1 lumen. I keep one on my nightstand also. The illuminated power button lets you find it if dropped in the dark. About 1 & 1/2 lipstick tubes in size. They help me to get my generators set up when the power goes out at home.

I'm a fan of 6500k because it seems brighter to my eye. I am married to Sofirn for price, quality & features. I probably have 8 or so. I have bought them as cheap as $18 each on sale from Sofirn.com and give them as gifts to friends & relatives. It's really great to have a bunch of flashlights that all operate with exactly the same feature set and operation, not to mention parts interchangeability as they age. I even bought my wife a red one, which she loves. I am never without a pocket knife either. A Microtech Ultratech DE Carbon Fiber while home.

I have two dollarstore flash lights in my EDC packs. Not the greatest, but if I lose them, not a biggie either. Has helped with two power failures while in unfamiliar territory. At home, I have a few scattered around the house just in case.

For me:
.
With all that, I end up at near around 4kg just on electronics (though the phones and headphones are on my person, not in the bag). I leave the Surface when I go carry-on only, especially here in Asia where they expect you to meet a 7kg bag limit per pax.
Dropping the Brydge KB helps somewhat if I stick with the on-screen KB, thats ~700g off.
Considering buying a Jabra Evolve2 85 replace my current headphones (7 years old now) - its lighter, and the boom mic is integrated / concealable, so would shed ~200g there. Also would allow me to get rid of the micro cable. But my current ones still work just fine
- Work Laptop - ~1.4kg
- Personal Surface Pro (when I am not hand-carry only) - with Brydge KB + Kensington fingerprint reader, 1.5kg
- iPhone - ~140g
- Secondary phone - was a Nokia 301 until 3G started shutting down, now a cheap Android slab, ~175g
- Over-ear wireless headphones - USB-B micro, 350g
- Detachable boom mic - makes a big difference for VCs, ~150g
- Backup wired in-ear earphones - ~30g
- Nitecore NB powerbank - 1 USB-C in/out + 1 USB-A out, ~120g

changed my load out since my last post. iPhone 12, pixel 7a, 60w chargers, folding case for all cords,
Added a Surface 9 with intel i7 and a 1 tb ssd, and put Kindle for pc on it. 1.8 pounds. It won because it weighs less than a mac air.
took away the iPad mini cause the Surface does , and can be a tablet plus better gaming. Also face unlock, which I like.
Just did Africa followed by Indonesia and Borneo for the orangutans. Used a Panasonic ZS100 instead of my big rig because those asian carriers like Air Asia and Batik are really restrictive on luggage weight.

Are you using anything interesting for that folding cord case? I have a bad habit of just chucking all of mine in 1-2 pouches in my laptop bag and calling it a day. I can usually identify the right cord by feel, but know that more organized ways exist.
