Apple Iphone backup to Icloud

Hello to the resident tech Gurus. Im having backup issues with my Old iPhone 6. Have 200GB of Icloud space and its only 40% full... but I cant seem to be able to properly back up my phone. The time estimate goes up to 19 hours to complete, I leave it overnight plugged in and next to my WIFI router with full signal.... the darned phone still doesn't back up.

Thoughts...? Tips..?

Ive thought of erasing the old backup I have on the Cloud and starting from scratch, is this a good idea...?

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Cheers from EZE,
Alex / Gaucho100K

First I'd turn icloud backup off, wait 30 mins, then turn it back on, and see if that helps.

If not, turn backup off, delete it from iCloud, turn backup on and try again.

Amazing... thanks for these tips. I will experiment this weekend and get back to report results.

Cheers

Are you doing a back up so you can restore to a new phone? If so, you could backup to a PC instead of iCloud.

No, just want to have an updated backup of my phone on the iCloud.

Is the network behind you relatively slow?

I used to have that problem when I had DSL. It went away after I switched to a much faster cable connection. My WiFi network was faster than the DSL network behind it, and iCloud backups would bring my network to its knees with congestion, etc.

New phones, ios updates, etc all make the backups larger until you've done the first one.

Backup speed depends on your internet connection speed, and 1GB takes 2 hours on a 1Mbps connection. When I had ADSL my speed was 4Mbps. Iphone 6 came in 3 sizes, with 128GB the biggest (and 16GB the smallest). So it could take 60 hours on an ADSL line :) My current connection is 46Mbps. You can determine your speed using speedtest https://www.speedtest.net/

The iphone backup is differential, so will be fast once you do the first one (typically minutes as only new data has to be backed up).
