Apple A1316 display
I have been given an Apple A1316 cinema display which is very nice. However it has a male mini displayport/Thunderbolt connector and my little travel media player doesn't just HDMI. I've looked on line but I've not had much luck. Does anyone know of anything or multiple things that would allow me to connect the two together? Everything I have seen has a male thunderbolt connection. At a pinch I can do DVI if that's easier.

You can try going HDMI to regular DisplayPort and then DP to mini-DP:
(HDMI->DP)

(DP->mini-DP)Based on the photos I've seen online, the above should have the correct genders for the connectors (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Hope this helps! |
Thanks I sort of worked that route out after posting. Yes the genders look correct and will be on Amazon shortly ^ Genius in the Apple store was baffled never having seen this display before.

I don't think you're going to get that monitor to it's native resolution without a pure DisplayPort signal.

Very possibly not, but then it's a nice display and I wouldn't want not to use it. One of the adapters has arrived the other is still on the way.
