The Verdant thermostat in my room was fine until I went to bed. The comfortable elevated temperature would suddenly be unacceptable to the thermostat, so it would request MAXIMUM cooling from the Trane heat pump. The thermostat stopped the insanity once it saw me leap out of bed and saw me moving, but again lost its mind two minutes after I went back to bed.

The only non-hacked solution was to fully shut down the HVAC system when going to bed.

The hotel was requested to switch from the wall thermostat to the heat pump thermostat and explained why, they refused.

An Internet search resulted in helium balloons and thermostat hacks. Hacking the thermostat is fixing the problem too far downstream.

The Trane heat pump has a model number label on the front bottom edge, below the pull-off cover. The manual was located on-line, document number PTAC-PRD002A-EN. It didn’t include DIP switch settings, but the last page referenced an installation manual. That manual was located, document number PTAC-SVX002A-EN. That manual was discovered to include the required information.

Following that manual, first turning off power, a single DIP switch position was toggled, power restored, now the local heat pump controls were fully active. That DIP switch position changes temperature control from an external thermostat to the local control pad thermostat.

Normal room temperature control was restored and enjoyed.

Yes, the hotel room has the wall thermostat, the heat pump against the window and a circuit breaker panel w/ a 240VAC breaker to kill/restore the A/C power (per the instructions).

A ball point pen tip was used to actuate the correct switch, instead of my big fat finger tip.
