Thoughts On Pixelbook?

Hi all,

Wanted to see what people thought about the new Google Pixelbook? I have been a user of the Chromebook for the last 2 years (using a Toshiba) and have loved it. I have never had an issue, but about a month ago I dropped mine and so am in need of a replacement. I was holding off for the Google launch today and was surprised at the base price of $999. Now I am not sure if I should get one, or go for a Mac.

Who is Google trying to target with such a high-end laptop and price? Wasnt the reason Chromebooks took off so well was due to the cheap price of them? I remember paying around $300 or so for my Toshiba and thought that was a bargain.

What are people's thoughts? Just curious.....

For $1k you can get a full laptop that is quite good. This is just too expensive for a ChromeBook.

Is it aimed at developers like the Pixel C was?

$1K is insane. I have a Samsung Chromebook Pro that was already expensive at $550. No way I'd pay $1K for a Chromebook

Yes. Remember, the original Pixel was priced between $1300-1500.

I'm most curious if fully-functional Windows can be installed. Typical Google build quality + form factor + price makes this a winning combination, when you compare it against a Macbook 12 or Surface Pro.

I had the Chromebook Pixel LS a few years back. It was a great device but it failed on me just after the warranty was up and Google customer service was shoddy.

IMHO the Samsung Chromebook Pro is a far better deal today than the new Pixelbook. Very similar features at half the price.
