IFE features for premium cabins?
Do you guys have any features that you would like to see improved or added to the current in flight entertainment systems, particularly in first or business cabins?
After almost two decades of flying I'm back in school studying design. I'm doing a project on trying to improve the current IFEs and also trying to differentiate them more between classes than just screen size and I'm curious to what you guys think would be good options to add to IFEs... |
- Flight rebooking within the IFE?
- Exclusive content fore premium cabin? - Better in flight maps? - Amazon.com / Netflix? |
No ads before programming in the premium cabin. I can think of a few airlines who have forged their bloody ads into my mind after a long-haul flight
|
Ability to resume viewing a program if you run out of time. Within X days of landing, login to a site using your record locator, flight number, seat number. The system knows what you last viewed and allows you stream it from (approximately) the point where you stopped.

Pay insane amounts for Business and First Class only to go through a ton of ads before the movie starts. -Eh, depends on the airline's IFE really. -Would be extremely difficult given the situation with WiFi itself not being available in some zones, however in places where inflight WiFi can be improved, then Netflix/Amazon Prime would certainly be a welcomed addition to any airline's IFE. |

Just clean the greasy crud off the screens.
|
Ability to "stream" content from my mobile phone, I can download stuff from Netflix for example for offline watching, would be nice to be able to watch that on the IFE screen.
|
Yeah, I would love to see content streamed from your device onto the big screen. These days, its content from the big screen to your mobile device.
A much improved airshow wouldn't hurt. Make it like Google Maps quality. |
Miracast doesn't need a live internet connection to work (as opposed to Google / Chrome Cast). I wonder if AirPlay does
|
We have some older Apple TVs in a few boardrooms, they're not attached to anything except the projectors.
Although I understand Apple's licensing terms for AirPlay are so absurd as to have prevented any widespread third-party support. |

Get a Google Cardboard with a head band and watch all the videos stored on your phone on the Cardboard App (My Video) in the virtual theater. :D It actually looks just like watching a movie in a theater. For Netflix, you have to use teh Netflix VR app but currently it doesn't support watching downloaded Netflix video. :(

In addition to being able to broadcast your videos through their screen, I'd like to be able to simply route by phone's sound through their system so that cabin announcements aren't drowned out. Speaking of which, what about a white noise sound channel? It will cost them pennies and does a better job at drowning screaming children than the channels they have.
I'd love to see a seat-to-seat communication system, but I am can see the issues with it. |
