Verizon or AT&T?
 

I finished my contract with AT&T so I am looking for the next one. I have been on AT&T for years - like the fact that you can talk and do data at the same time and the Wifi Calling.

AT&T vs. Verizon network is not a big concern for me - it seems one is better in certain areas while another is in others.

Really dislike AT&T's lock policy. That would be the only reason I want to switch to Verizon. However, I wonder about the "talk + data at the same time" thing. Does Verizon still have that restriction?

Also, does Verizon do Wifi Calling like AT&T? It works great in and out of the US. I even use it when I am home in the US as the battery drains a lot slower on Wifi.

You might look at the thread on Google Fi. I went from Verizon to Fi and cut my bill substantially and ended up with better service. Here in La Jolla, the CEO of my company regularly switches between AT&T and Verizon depending on her mood. She hates'em both. Are you IOS or android?

just FYI, none of the carriers really do contracts anymore

(they do "equipment installment plans". this means, once you pay off the phone, you are free to leave whenever you want to and join another carrier. you can even keep the same phone if it's supported on the next carrier)

some iPhone sub-models work on all the carriers, some don't (every year, they keep switching this. I believe the Verizon model is the one you want - works on verizon and tmobile and att, comes unlocked)

Thanks. The way our work phone works is that the company pays everything directly - the initial payment (we don't pay it off) and the monthly plan. We do not have a choice on the plan - whatever the company picks is the one we get.

We get to keep our phone once we upgrade to the next one. So, I want a phone that will work with lots of carriers around the world. There is another thread that says a Verizon iPhone is even more compatible than an unlocked AT&T iPhone because it supports more frequencies/bands and protocols. Is that true?

tl;dr iPhone 6s either model, will work on both carriers with simultaneous voice and data, iPhone 7, only VZW model will work on both carriers, both excellent world phones.

Iphone 6, 6s, and SE are the same on VZW and AT&T. Both can do simultaneous Voice and Data, due to everything going over LTE. 5S and below on verizon can not do simultaneous voice and data due to doing calling over CDMA based 3G. iPhone 6 is a little limited when it comes to being a global phone. The 6S is excellent as the only difference between the AT&T and the VZW model is one LTE band which the only carrier to use that one band in the world, is AT&T. But the 6S, either model will work with almost any carrier in the world with full compatibility sans a few in Japan. iPhone 7 on Verizon has a radio that has full compatibility on almost every network in the world sans a few in Japan. AT&T iPhone 7 will not work on any cdma (important in US with VZW and sprint and some asian countries) or tdscdma networks (important in china) so that may hinder you if you want to ever go there. The unlocked iPhone 7 is the same model as the VZW iphone 7 and will work with A&T and has shown to be a touch faster, and shows that it can handle carrier aggregation with both carriers. Just some technical input. willmyphonework.net is also a cool tool.

fyi, verizon is bringing back unlimited (*same with other guys - deprioritization after 22GB on congested towers)

Interesting. Looks like $110 for the plan, - $10 for autopay and then $20 for each line access... I'm curently on a 30GB plan for ATT with 5 lines. if my math serves me correct than it would cost me $200+tax/fees for 5 lines....

I wonder how ATT will respond...

Heh I am on the 30GB AT&T plan too except I have 9 lines. The new Verizon plan is going to be about $60 more but unlimited data. I am pretty none of my line could use over 22GB a month so it practically unlimited.

If AT&T doesn't do anything, they will lose me to either Tmobile or Verizon.

That's more or less how my corporate plan is - their plan, they pay the monthly, contract basis. They had some free phone options (16GB iPhone 6), or some "upgraded" phones for which I was responsible for paying the upcharge, which I did.

Our company is also Verizon or AT&T for corporate plans. Also have a BYOD option, but I'm still company-paid and on Verizon.

We used to have the traditional international plans with the stupidly high rates, 100MB data, etc. That recently (at least as of October) changed to a plan where we can use our existing allotment of data, talk, text overseas with a (monthly, I think) surcharge. Much better and cheaper than on the old legacy international plans, when receiving a few attachments and checking directions once would use up your monthly data.
