Recommendations for good/inexpensive SSD <300GB?

Before I start moving stuff from the X220 to the new X250, I want to replace the 500GB HDD with an SSD. I am currently only using about 200GB on the X220, so likely 300GB, or even 250GB would be sufficient.

Recommendations for really good deals on reliable drives right now? Any to avoid?

And I presume Clonezilla is still the freeware of choice for cloning the pristine X250 HDD to a new SSD?

Thanks, all

Samsung is probably the best out there at the moment along with intel.

This should do nicely

or a cheaper option, go with this

Just a reminder, the OS will take some space so keep that in mind.

Both of maortega15's links display multiple size choices, including 250GB.

As far as brands to stay away from, probably stay away from Corsair.

Honestly, there are no bad ways to go nowadays. Samsung and Sandisk are both great, and with current prices, I'd recommend going with as large as you are willing to spend. Keep in mind that the price difference between 256 and 512 is often no more than $50, and if you can spare $50, go larger.

I've only ever used Apricorn to clone, and at around $25 with their newest USB 3.0 SATA cable, it is a good deal:

There are big differences between SSDs on sustained write speed and IOPs. Samsung is very good at maintaining write speed.

You're welcome. Glad that you stuck with Samsung! ^

How'd you like the reviews? Hopefully you can get back to us with feedback once you install it.

It's moot now, but I'll agree with ScottC that just about any brand is fine. I have a Samsung in my personal laptop becuase it was cheap when I was looking. I had a OCZ Vertex in my previous computer for a few years and it too was fine.

I think Samsung and maybe one or two other companies make all the flash chips in all SSDs anyway.

For the record, Anandtech generally has the gold standard for SSD summaries:

Samsung has free drive migration software and SSD management software downloadable from their web site.
