upcoming Iphone 7...?

Wondering what the resident Tech Guru's know about what we are to expect for the next edition(s) of Iphone...?

Am I correct in assuming that the new models will be announced sometime in September..??

gobluetwo May 13, 2016 12:36 pm

People are guessing a release date in September, so announcement maybe in August. Also, speculation around dual lens camera, no headphone jack (bluetooth only), wireless charging, water resistant.

WWDC is June 13-17. Don't they normally announce during this event?

CPRich May 13, 2016 8:13 pm

WWDC is usually where they announce the next iOS version, 10.x in this case, that will run on the hardware announced a few months later.

As with digital cameras in the last 5 years, I believe phone have plateaued in terms of new features and functions, converging on a fairly standard configuration, and sales of new phones will drop in the near future as the "gotta have the new one" fever goes away and folks keep their cameras for 2,3, or 4 years.

Apple's 6s showed that last year - 3D touch was the big thing, and it's a bit of a yawner, and the Galaxy 7 basically put back a bunch of stuff that used to be there.

Even the rumors aren't very exciting.

Thinner, lighter - how much do you really need?

Most likely. Last year the new models were announced on September 9 and available on September 25.

The main rumor I've heard is that the headphone jack is going away and you'll need to use Bluetooth or a Lightning adapter for headphones.

I think it's a silly idea since the stated reason is to make the iPhone thinner, but it's already perfectly thin enough.

I don't really care about phones being any thinner unless it's so thin that I can fold/unfold (or roll/unroll) it, but we are nowhere close to that level of thinness happening, and I'm not even sure I'd want a device like that given input issues of concern to me.

What I do care about is a much more destruction/damage-resistant device, some kind of much superior battery performance, more "measurement" capabilities, and a device that re-charges without me having to even do much thinking about when next to connect the device for re-charging. But unless there is a huge leap in these areas with iPhones, I'm rather content with my current iPhone choices (in conjunction with rather decent protective cases that don't add too much bulk to the devices) and don't see myself necessarily being so eager to upgrade anytime soon.

I can get a new iphone now, which is earlier than my contract expiration next month. Luckily, I can also keep my family plan contract, which is grandfathered, and get the phone at a discount with another contract versus having to buy it outright or paying for it monthly with the new plans out there (verizon), which also cost more.

So what should I do? Get the 6s or wait for the 7? Neither of us really don't mind not have the latest and greatest, and it doesn't sound like the 7 will be all that much different. Right? We have 3 phones on the plan, but my mom's is an old flip phone that is on the plan but not contracted. She doesn't want another phone.

You'd have to get rid of the USB port then too, so that's not going to happen, unless if wireless charging becomes the only way to charge an iPhone, and let's be real, that's not going to happen

The lighting connector is quite thinner than a micro-USB or a 3.5 mm audio port.

They'll certainly find a reason to make this a huuuuuge selling point. The last new smartphone I bought was an iPhone 4 in 2010. I can survive without 3D-Touch, finger print sensor, etc... .

Here is a very comprehensive rumor guide to the iPhone 7: http://www.macrumors.com/roundup/iphone-7/

I persoanlly am hoping it gets water resistant treatment and that the dual cameras are on both the 7 and the 7+, not just the 7+.

This is crazy. They can't expect everyone to use bluetooth. I would love to see how they are going to do this. They better think twice about this before they implement this change. The replacement has to be awesome and innovative.

now that I think about it Apple is a hardware company so it makes senses for them to do this. I expect them to included an adapter (lightning to 3.5mm) like someone earlier said but also I bet they will offer headphones (BEATS) that have lightning adapters.

That would be a deal breaker for me as I'm not getting rid of my Bose headphones anytime soon!

Will there be a 7SE or is the current SE the last of the form factor?
