Sprint Wifi calling
I just wanted to be clear on this, is using WIFI calling internationally to the US free, from any country (e.g. places like Bhutan or Laos)?
Also, is texting over wifi free? It seemed like that definitely may not be the cost. Wondering about switching from Tmobile to Sprint, where the local service is better and I can cut my bill by "50%." |
Sprint's WiFi calling isn't as robust as T-Mobile's. iOS has significant limitations for whatever reason on messaging. T-Mobile's international roaming is also better in terms of total countries covered, as well. Neither of the countries you listed have coverage listed by either carrier though. Their 50% off isn't as good as they make it out to be.
Do you have a phone that supports Band 12 LTE? T-Mobile has been doing a lot of "gap filling" with the low frequency holdings that they have. |

Am I able to make calls from international locations with Wi-Fi Calling? Wi-Fi Calling supports calling from 200+ countries / territories. Wi-Fi Calling is not supported in select countries including: Australia, China, Cuba, North Korea, India, Iran, Singapore, Sudan and Syria. Sprint Subscribers are not authorized to use the service in countries where Wi-Fi Calling is prohibited by law. Use of VPNs to avoid international calling restrictions is a breach of terms and conditions and is not supported. What does Wi-Fi Calling cost? Wi-Fi Calling is a free service when calling or messaging to a US, US Virgin Islands or Puerto Rico number. See the following table for a summary of call types: Call / Messaging Type: Calls from international locations to the US, US Virgin Island and Puerto Rico numbers. Charges: $0

Thanks!
I have an iPhone, and I'm addicted to buying the new ones as they come out. :)

Pretty sure it's a Sprint limitation and not iOS, unless I'm missing something? My 6S on T-Mobile seems to send/receive SMS/MMS with no issues over WiFi, even with airplane mode on.

Have you tried Google Voice/Hangouts (available in most "places" abroad) since that's also WiFi calling, free calls home to the US - as long as Google - other calls for as little as 2 cents or 4 cents per minute (i.e. Taiwan to South Korea) - works great on our old Nexus 5 (sold/traded on Swappa) - replaced with Nexus 6 and Nexus 5X running MM 6.0.1 (both with integrated support for WiFi calling on T-Mo.) Next move for us is to switch over to Project Fi since we already got the hardware.
Also, works on unlocked iPhone 5S, running iOS 9.0.2 with T-Mobile WiFi calling and Google Hangouts calling (although the Voice/Hangouts Apps have a different touch/look/feel to it) - it's a prepaid backup line for voice/SMS only - so it's all over WiFi (essentially, like being in Airplane mode since it has no data connectivity ...) |
