Google DNS and Multiple TXT records
Google Domains, which I use as my domain registrar, apparently limits you to one TXT record per subdomain. Most service providers (including Google) require you to put a TXT record in your top level domain with a code they give you to prove you own the network. If I also want to implement DKIM or SPF, I can't do so without removing the code.
Google's support has been very unhelpful (I think it's some guy in India reading off a script), just telling me that they do not allow multiple TXT records per name. Name is what they call the subdomain, apparently. Why on earth not? Surely I can't be the first person to run into this limitation? How do others deal with it? |
I use www.dnsmadeeasy.com
Mind you, it does cost money. Their support has been fantastic, and I have never been in a similar situation where I want to do something and cannot. I don't have a direct reply to your query though. |
Don't use google domains. Easy enough.

Isn't the code authentication a one-off thing? I thought you could just remove it once you have authenticated with them.

If I want to set up both SPF and DKIM, then, I can't. The DNS spec allows it. Plenty of domains do it. Why doesn't Google allow it? That's what I"m annoyed about. |
Have you tried the naive approach, saying "I'd like to setup SPF and DKIM records?"
In the interim, if one had to choose, I'd go with SPF. That killed off a shelfload of spam for me. |
Update: GOogle Support helped, actually. You can have multiple TXT records per subdomain. Instead of clicking Add for a new TXT record, you have to edit the existing one and then click the little + sign that appears to add more.
I feel kinda silly now...though I will say it's not the most intuitive way to do it. |
Your post was here was most helpful gfunkdave. I was going to do the same thing with my google DNS domains and now I know how. Thanks!
