Web E-Mail

Outlook is changing their interface (according to the "Preview" indicator I'm seeing) and I absolutely, hate it.

Any suggestions on a different service? I really don't care for Gmail or Yahoo. So essentially the big 3 are out.

Hmm, what don't you like about it? Looks pretty much like it always has to me (though I never use my Outlook.com account so probably missed things).

In any case, check your ISP's webmail solution. Maybe that will be better. Also gmx.com is a free webmail solution run by 1&1, a big web hoster and DNS registrar. Could also check out AOL mail, which I think is free too these days.

They changed the way you write an e-mail. Went to a pop out window instead of just staying inside the same window. My laptop doesn't like it. I use Outlook (the PIM) probably 80% of the time, but at night I'll shut it off so that I don't get the alerts. It is that 20% of the time where it is annoying. Our ISP doesn't have an e-mail option (given the choice of free e-mail or fibre to the home, I'll let you guess which I picked.)

I'll look into gmx. I hadn't heard of that one.

That sounds like a configurable option. Have you looked around in your settings?

Good call - click the gear icon in the upper right and choose Options. Then click Reading Pane under Mail - Layout. There's an option of whether to type new messages in the Reading Pane or in a new window.

I was able to switch it, but was also required to change the reading pane style to the column style, rather than messages on top, pane on the bottom. I'll probably end up just staying in the Outlook PIM.
