Looking for good micro-USB to USB-C adapter

I took the plunge and went with a new Nexus 5X. This means I need to change my existing stock of micro-USB cables to USB-C. However given the proliferation of micro-USB I'd prefer to just buy an adapter so I can have the option to charge with either plug as I have external batteries, etc. that still will need micro-USB.

After much trial and error I've settled on MediaBridge micro-USB cables (available at Amazon) as being both reasonably priced and good in terms of secure connection fit and speedy charging so if possible I'd like to continue using those cables.

Does anyone have a good lead on a decent charging/data micro-USB to USB-C adapter?

Since this is new technology I would stay with brand that I have used and trusted.
You usually do not know the actual quality of the plug until it doesn't fit or make good contact.

Well obviously Chinese made are readily available on eBay. Quality: unknown. And then there's https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...ic/description which will have USB-C ... in a few months.

A word of warning: I tried a cheapo USB Micro B female to USB C male adapter from Amazon and while it works at a basic level, whatever magic signaling the Nexus 5X needs to do to enable rapid charging got lost in translation no matter which USB A to USB Micro B cable I connected it to; on the lock screen, which is the only place I can find a reliable charging indication on the Nexus 5X, I never got anything other than "Charging slowly." I've ended up just using USB A to USB C cables for charging instead.

Other micro B to C adapters may do better, but I'm not holding my breath.

Hopefully some proper USB Charging Standard car adapters will come out soon (supporting the Nexus 5X/6P 3A/5V charging rate) too.

The N5X and N6P don't use the "QuickCharge" fast charging standard that's already out there, but instead use their own. It is not compatible with "QuickCharge" or "QuickCharge2.0." So if you're using one of those chargers, it's not going to work.

Edit: It looks like they use the upcoming quick charge standard that is designed for USB-C specifically.

The OnePlus adapter is well rated: https://oneplus.net/oneplus-usb-type-c-adapter - again won't support the new fast charging system but will work.
You can also pick up cables: https://oneplus.net/type-c-cable (they go in and out of stock due to popularity right now).

Shipping is a flat $5.

(Waiting on my 6P to ship here..)

As a followup, I picked up a short cable with micro B female to C male from Amazon, and it also has the "charging slowly" issue, so I suspect there's just something inherent about going from micro B to C that limits the Nexus 5's charging rate - maybe it's due to USB OTG compatibility or something.

So for charging, it seems like we're stuck with A-to-C or C-to-C cables.

So I finally received My N6P and one of the things I did was connect it to my USB power strip. Of the 3 A -> C cables I had, 2 gave me a "Charging Rapidly" while one did not. The one that did not was the six inch A->C cable that came with the phone.

The charger that came with the phone had a USB-C output, and came with a C->C cable and can do rapid charging.

I just order this one from Amazon for $2.82 with free shipping. Will post again to give a review.

Ugh I know. As if the lack of type C cables in my house wasn't bad enough, one of the included ones can't do rapid charging

Just an update to this thread, seems there are some major issues with a lot of the Type-A to C cables out there:

Here is a direct link to the Amazon profile, to read the reviews.

It looks like he's added some more reviews since I last looked. Hopefully, he continues doing this. It would be a shame if this is it.

I bought a USB to USB-C converter off ebay for 6 bucks and was planning on using it to charge my phone with my portable charger, glad I read this thread and the articles before I used it.

I only needed a converter because I have a portable charger that comes in handy when traveling and a power outlet isnt available. Now looks like I will have to be very careful buying a portable charger that has USB-C and has the specs not to ruin my new phone.

Anyone know of any good portable chargers with USB-C that wont ruin my phone?

From the Reddit thread this is the only one that's been tested (and approved) by Benson so far: (the 20100mAh version).
