Got the same email.

Hell price for 2 years is officially at $499. There might not be any unlock code available for a few months. Maybe buy unlocked direct and take two years of monthly bill credits.

My hope is that by switching to an Android operating system that the Priv doesn't follow the same bloatware path as Samsung. I switched carriers recently and test drove a Galaxy 5 Note and there is a ton of useless crap on it that can't be removed. On the second day I received notice of 11 updates ten of which were for items I'd never heard of much less actually use. The Samsung was swapped for a BlackBerry Leap and my unlocked Z10 will be used as a back-up. Sometimes the simple ways are the best.

The Verge is pro-Apple but they're basically saying what some in this thread have said--the Priv is way too expensive. They also bring up a good point about BB being slow with software updates.

If the priv gets a coupon code like passport did during black friday it would bring price to $550-599. At that price I would consider the phone.

Blackberry tends to over shoot price, realize only the hard core fans are buying then drops the price $100.

Definitely. The Z30 retailed for $600 on launch but now can be had for ~$350 from BlackBerry. Similar situation with the Classic, but with more a modest decrease in price

Reviews seem to be coming in now. Engadget ranks it 77/100 partly because they think the keyboard could be improved. WSJ ran into a couple of issues but otherwise likes the phone. Both don't think it's enough to put BB anywhere near the top though.

Near the top? BlackBerry is not going for anywhere close to the top of the handset business. They just want the division to be profitable/stable. John Chen said he needs to sell 5 million phones over the next year in order to stay in the handset business. 5 million phones in a year is still quite comfortably at the BOTTOM.

Per T-Mobile, it will support band 12 and wi-fi calling out of the box.

I think the point of their comments is that this phone is possibly a "too little, too late" thing and they won't even get 5 million. We'll see, of course.

Received email offer to upgrade for $399, same grandfathered plan for 2yrs commitment from Hell today.

Need to research availability of unlock code, even for just outside Canada where I need it.

Even if you can unlock it for use overseas, you might want to check to see if it supports a lot of LTE bands.

Thanks for the reminder. The locations where I'll be using it in E and SE Asia are ok.

Looks like will stick with Q10 - cannot think of any applications, etc. that I'm missing one Q10 that would need Android instead.

Lucky You.

I have six Andriod only app that are critical to some of my business. I would like to be back to one device instead of Q10 and S4
