ProjectFi and Keep Google Voice Number

I want to try Project Fi and keep my Google Voice number. Isn't there a way to get a temporary number and keep my old Google number. I use it to text information to people I don't want to share my mobile with.

I think you participated in this thread, but here are my experiences:

If I recall correctly, the best process now is to create a 2nd Gmail account and then apply for Fi using it. Then you can just let them assign a new number to your account using this email, leaving your other Gmail account and associated GV number alone.

You might need to move the number to a temporary carrier. ProjectFi and GV use the same backend, and that may be preventing the move. I saw something on Reddit along those lines.

You can transfer your gvoice number to another gmail account, then have projectFi assign you a new number or port in from your carrier.

I just signed up originally with my primary account, but after getting the invite realized the limitations about losing google voice access forever to that number, so signed up with another gmail account and received a new invite in about a week
