Isn't the 1 gig good for a year? For some light users, it could be a better deal.
1GB for 30 days 3GB for 90 days 12GB for 365 days I use these myself when on holiday. So far, in the USA, France and a handful of others so can probably add to the conversation here. I buy them off Amazon and when the time is up, throw them away. Amazon will ship globally Originally I used them with a MiFi device but then switched to using an unlocked Samsung S2 phone as it was lighter than the MiFi and the battery would last all day Last year for the USA trip, I switched to using an old iPhone 5 (unlocked again) and again this worked a treat. I could thrown the phone with personal hotspot enabled and chuck it into a backpack and forget about it. It is important with Three that you buy the data only pre paid SIMS because whilst feel at home is available on their pre pay voice SIMs, tethering is not. This may matter to you This also applies to many other EU SIMs from other carriers. Quite often, tethering is not supported. Most phones can check if the network (or airtime plan) allows tethering and if not, will not allow you to use the personal hotspot feature on the phone. Its always important to check before you spend any money on a SIM for this purpose. So in 3 weeks when we go on holiday for 3 weeks in France, I know I have 3GB of days that will last me for the duration and that the whole family can use by tethering to the spare iPhone which will probably live either in my jacket pocket or the wifes handbag. All for less than £20 Considering that there will be my 2 iPhones, my sons Droid and 3 iPads between us, this is a lot cheaper than messing about with local SIM cards and most importantly does not break any of the terms and conditions for the service. |

Three UK pay as you go, unlimited data and a bunch of minutes GBP15 a month, covers UK, France and Italy. However need to get the sim from the UK.
Other option is Keepgo, data only sim. US$70 for 1GB. Yes, sounds expensive at first but some very useful benefits. I have an iPhone 5 that I don't now use as a phone, but just as a FLIROne thermal image viewer. When I reset it to factory settings it demands a SIM before setting up. I just put in a Three data SIM (now expired) and it worked just fine to get it going. You should be able to get going with a data SIM, or one with a few minutes and texts. |
There is some confusion here, the Keepgo sim which is what Dubai Stu and myself are referring to, the 1GB is valid for one year.

Is the three feel at home sim usable all at once or is its divided up 1gb per month?

1GB or 30 days - Whichever comes first 3GB or 90 days - Whichever comes first 12GB or 365 days - Whichever comes first So if you get the 12GB SIM and use 12GB in your first week then it will stop however you can then go to the Three website and Top Up the SIM with another 1GB or 3GB bundle however these tops ups all only work for just 30 days which is why i tend to just buy a new SIM for each trip |
I'm going to throw in a useful but of knowledge here which I have discovered in the last week.
As in my earlier post, I stated that I use a Samsung phone as a hotspot with a Three data only sim. Whilst in France over the last couple of weeks, as usual, I bought a 3GB SIM for the trip. I also chose to use a spare iPhone 5 as the hotspot as the battery in doing so is much better than the Samsung. What I discovered was that as soon as I tried to use the hotspot feature on the iPhone, I got a network message telling me that tethering from a phone was not allowed. So I put the SIM back in the Samsung and tethering worked just fine. So it looks like when an iPhone connects to the network, it declares itself as a phone. An iPad declares itself as a tablet. On Android, the device just declares itself as an Android device. Therefore Three who do block tethering whilst roaming on phones are using this information. BTW, using the iPhone as a data only phone (for Facebook etc) worked just fine. This only affects tethering. So watch out for this little gotcha. It was a good job I had my spare Android device to hand otherwise this would have been a waste of £20 |
