Android to replace iPhone 4S

I'm looking to change my wife's iPhone for a more modern android. Primary use is SMS, camera, email, Facebook, Zinc Payments and Candy Crush

She wants something the same size to fit in her pocket and will not entertain a bigger phone.

I did think of Galaxy 3 Mini, but was put off by the age and my recent poor experiences with an S4.

The rest of the house is completely 'droid and I do not want another apple, though the 5c would be acceptable.

Moto E or first-gen Moto G both come to mind based solely on size, but even those may be pushing it for her. The 2nd Gen Moto E and 1st Gen Moto G LTE both offer LTE, just watch the bands and get what you need for your region/carrier.

Thanks for the suggestions....

Googling around tonight would see the Sony Z3 Compact being a good match. Happy to hear any opinions on that.

For what it looks like she'll be doing, I don't know if I'd pay the premium for the performance boost of the Z3 Compact.

Are you getting a subsidized phone or are you going to pay full price for it? If it's subsidized by your carrier you should go flagship. The Z3 is an awesome device. Sony is pretty much the only company who manages to put flagship specs in a compact device. Otherwise I will agree with the Moto G LTE first gen since the 2nd gen has a larger display and the pixel density is lower so it's not really a worthwile upgrade to the 1st gen.

Have you looked at the Xcover 3? http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_gala...ver_3-6990.php I love mine.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

I can't see the Xcover 3 in the UK. The 5MP camera is a limitation for this if I could find it.

Funding - I'm happy to buy outright or get a contract. Whatever is cheapest over 2+ years. We are tied to Vodafone in the UK due to signal issues at home. (I have two femto cells from work on Vodafone). So it would be a Vodafone contract or an unlocked phone + a £10/month contract.

Sorry I should have said that I bought it SIM free on AmazonUK I don't like buying phones from the networks. Camera is okay for me but I agree it isn't top of the line phone is waterproof and quite tough.

+1 -- unless she really needs a decent camera

Supposedly a much better Moto G is coming out.... with 2GB ram, slightly better camera, battery life, etc.

I have the Moto E 2015 and love it, however its a bit touchy and the camera isn't that great. Minor things as its only a gap phone until my contract ends.

She does use the camera a lot - both for the kids and for taking pictures of her completed work for her website - she makes jewelry.

The current Moto-G is in the "too big" camp. Really looking for iPhone 4S size.

Thanks for all the suggestions to date. Another piece of info - I'm hoping to get 3+ years out of this investment, so a slightly higher spec now may not be a bad thing.
