My Nexus 7 2012 was recently bricked by the 5.0.2 update. The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 is cheap, but a bit weak for me (plus low resolution). If I were also in the market for a new phone, I'd go for the Nexus 6 phone and skip a tablet altogether. Since my LG G3 still works fine and has a 5.5" screen, a 7" tablet isn't much different, so the Sony Z3 Compact or the Dell Venue 8 7000 are just "maybes", as I'm leaning towards the Nexus 9.

Presently have the N7 (2013) wifi and overall great tablet. I am however waiting for the Xperia Z4 to come out and may upgrade to that. However I'm sure its not going to be anywhere near as cheap as the N7 was.

Isn't the Z4 a 10 inch tablet? That's a bit big for my liking.

I use a Nexus 6 and a Nexus 9. I like them both, and the Nexus 9 seriously improved with the recent 5.1.1 update.

How was the size and weight of the Nexus 9?

Isn't replacing the Nexus 7 with a Nexus 9, apples and oranges? Would a Nexus 9 fit into your overcoat pocket?

We're facing the same exact issue in our family. Can't believe there isn't a decent 7 inch android tablet...The lollipop update really killed the tablet in terms of speed, and now the charging port is playing up...

My wife usually uses hers at home, so size is not so critical, but when travelling, the Nexus 7 was perfect...

I guess with larger and larger phones being typical, the market has moved to larger tablets only. Shame.

I could fit my Nexus 7 into my pants pocket, believe it or not. Obviously that's impossible with the Nexus 9. I agree that they're "apples and oranges".

That said, after getting my Nexus 6 the Nexus 7 seems redundant. I do still keep two of them in the house: one is my daughter's and my old one is left in our loft to control one of the Chromecasts in the house.

The Nexus 9 is much faster (after the recent 5.1.1 update that is, the 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 firmwares were very buggy on the 9) and the extra screen real estate is nice. It feels pretty light for its size, IMHO. I use it for reading and web surfing before bed mostly. When I'm "out and about" my Nexus 6 is my sole device now.

I have to say the Dell Venue 8 7000 looks like a solid contender. Slightly bigger than the N7, but has got some very good reviews.

While it might not be as good as the N7 2013, the Galaxy Tab 4 7" isn't bad at all if you really need the 7" size. Google Now launcher takes care of most of the bits of Touchwiz you see most often.

http://www.androidheadlines.com/2015...-via-ebay.html Dell Venue 8 7000 is $349 and http://store.asus.com/us/item/201502AM140000007/A18484 the nexus 7 bundle is only $179...

I bought the bundle for my mother-in-law who benefited greatly from the wireless charging since her shaking hands had trouble with the microUSB connector.

If you want to save some money and don't mind a pre-owned unit, Cowboom is selling the Nexus 7 2013 WiFi for $99 and you can take another ten bucks off with the promotion code MDW10

The Nvidia Shield Tablet..not the TV or handheld, has across the board universal praise. If you are use to using an Android Tablet that is probably your best bet right now.

Just got the Google Project Tango tablet. The 3D scanning stuff is nice, but I like it for the other insane features; 4GB ram, 128GB storage, MicroSD, K1 CPU, MicroHDMI out, Quick charge, dock included. I wish it had Lollipop, but other than that, this is one insane tablet. Sadly, at $512, it is priced there too.

I'll be using it to scan parts of a new office.

But this is a concept / "beta" / developer tablet. What do you expect? They are not selling this for the consumer market.

I'm not sure I mentioned that I found anything out of the ordinary in my post? If I had, I wouldn't have purchased it, would I :D
