Best Bloo-ray ripper?

I was going to ask this in the DVD ripping thread, but then it got closed... What is your preferred Blu-ray ripper? As in, convert my Blu-ray discs to an MKV file that can be played on my iPad?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I have always used MakeMKV,

http://makemkv.com

and then Handbrake to compress it.

Cool program, thanks for the tip! It still seems pretty new. I like the somewhat familiar looking user interface :)

I've made a change to the title that may (hopefully) keep the spammers away. There is a massive market for weird Chinese knockoff rippers, and I'd really like to keep them away from this thread.

T'is pricey, but i've heard good things about CLone BD from our old friends at Elbysoft. http://www.slysoft.com/en/download.html

LOL. I think I know the ripping programs you mean... they all look pretty much identical.

Yeah, but their marketing usually involves spamming internet boards. I give it a day till we need to swat some spammers here again :D

OMG I clicked this thread only because I'm wondering "who is stupid enough they can't spell Blu-Ray?" And then I read that a mod did it to you... makes sense why, though.

And so far we're spam free ^ :p

Hehe, when I first saw it I went in to change it...but then saw Scott had done it on purpose.

I'm enjoying the spam-free thread, too.

I've used it to create my own in flight entertainment (IFE) from movies that I've purchased.

It worked!

Most difficult thing was figuring out how to move the movie files from my laptop to my iPad. In fact, I do not recall how I eventually did that.

Probably via iTunes somehow... Anyone know?

What player do you use on your iPad? Some I have tried are VLC, nPlayer, Infuse. Then, all you need to do is sideload the MKV to your preferred app using iTunes.

I find the combo of MakeMKV and Handbrake handles 80% of use cases and both are very easy to use.

The only things that might require additional tools is splitting on chapters or special subtitle work.
