Whatever makes you comfortable is the most important, but I think you are just rearranging the deck chairs.

I will say that despite my view that text on a screen is text on a screen, I must say the the learning management system I use for online courses has a threaded discussion system we use that I do not care for. It is more the asynchronous nature of it than the format, but the stairstep format is also not to my liking. I would rather the student responses be sent to me by email. I like everything in one place.

Then again there is the unfortunate email feature called Reply All that I do not think I need to discuss further, less my blood pressure rise again.

I still say that text on a screen is text on a screen. Try rules and filters to move the junk to the deleted folder.

E-mail is a great tool. If it is causing problems, I think you have a human issue. I.e. you should tell people to stop sending you irrelevant e-mails.

That is a stunningly simplistic analysis of the situation. Email is a "one to many" tool and in large organization it's almost impossible to "legislate" email behavior.

And why would any other tool be any better?

Please point to anything in my response that implied I thought there was a better tool.

The tenor of your post to the thread. If not, I withdraw my comment.

The tenor of my post was related to the fact that in a large organization, anyone, from anywhere can send you email, cc you on email, forward you email, reply to all on every email, or just about anything else; whether you want them to, whether you asked them not to, etc.

The poster's assertion that it's just a "human problem" and tell people not to send you irrelevant emails is incredibly simplistic; for example some of those "irrelevant" emails come from my bosses'

I can control how I choose to handle email and even to some degree I have some ability to influence the behaviors for my direct staff, but beyond that? Not so much...

Regards
