Two months ago, I called T-Mobile from Sweden because I forgot to unlock my Galaxy S4 before leaving the US. I had the unlock code within 18 hours. ^

But ^^ to this app, too.

Guess I'm a bit perplexed by all the hub bub on this. AT&T has been allowing me to unlock my out of contract phones without any problem over the last couple years. I've probably unlocked at least four phones (btwn my wife and I) and though they often state it could take days, I've found after submitting online the requests have generally been approved within hours, if not minutes.

I think it's the fact that you don't need to call/e-mail to request your phone to be unlocked.

TMO's app for a temporary unlock is also quite innovative. It allows users who may not have paid off their phone via EIP to still enjoy the benefits of an unlocked phone while traveling.

T-Mobile has always done the same thing - but as you can see if you read the article, this is a one-click app that will do it for you.

I did read the article. And sure, for the short attention span, ADD crowd that needs an app for everything, then great.

However, with the frequency that one unlocks phones, I don't find filling in about 3 or 4 text boxes on a webpage form and clicking "Submit" to be overly onerous. Of the things I'd want a carrier expending engineering resources on (you know, that whole "opportunity cost" thing) this wouldn't be in the top 25.

But to each his/her own.

You're in the minority?? My AT&T friends complain how they can never ever get their phones unlocked....

Bless. Is this for people that cannot Google how to unlock their phone? I have lost count of the times I have done this on all platforms from a number of carriers either by myself or paying a shop. It really does seem to be a US problem as most places in Europe getting a phone unlocked is just not an issue.

Are you sure that your friends have completed their contract? I've easily and painlessly unlocked 4 iphones (between my wife and I) without any problem whatsoever, but again, all of those phones had completed 24 months contracts.
