Recommend a Qi (wireless) charger
Finally got Qi wireless receivers for both my S4 and Mrs. Swede's S3. The $17 package deal from eBay included a standard, rectangular charging pad. Those will work fine at my desk at work and at her desk in her home office, but we're looking for a hockey puck-like charger for our nightstands. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Actually, for Mrs. Swede's home office, I'd like to find an angled/tilting charger that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I really wish more phone and tablet makers would adopt the Qi standard. Thanks in advance. |
Been using this one at home:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...AGELR75NTW5IMN And this one for travel since it has a cable built in. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...3J6Y34EDIU5ZRE |
This one works fine for me, $12:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/130991526919 I use it both for a Nexus 7 tablet and a Samsung Galaxy S5. (It is the flat rectangular one, not a puck or tilted, but the price is right.) |
I have several, and like the LG WCP-300 the best, I think was around $30.
http://www.lg.com/us/cell-phone-acce...s-charging-pad I have two like what catflyer posted, and don't think they are strictly complaint to Qi. Once my Nexus 4 reaches full charge, the charging stops. There is no periodic top off and if I leave phone on the charger for many hours, I am basically guaranteed a not fully charged battery. The quality control is also suspect. One of chargers only works with one specific receiver. The price is pretty good though (I paid less than $10 for each, shipped from South East Asia). |

A little more detail... The problem with buying a separate Qi receiver for the Samsung Galaxy series is that it creates a tiny bulge in the middle of the back cover. This can cause the phone to spin around the rectangular charging pad when trying to tap on the phone. Looking for a hockey puck-type charger with the non-slip ring on it to prevent said-spin. I'm guessing any of them will do, but I'm welcome to suggestions. |
I have one of these, and it seems to be working OK. Not as good as the LG one but way cheaper, and a ring of semi-grippy material (which the LG does not have).

Best of both worlds...
I use this one and have been very pleased with it:
http://www.amazon.com/RAVPower%C2%AE...r+with+battery Has its own internal battery. Makes it even more convenient in my opinion. |

I do not believe this electromagnetic radiation is healthy so I'm going to keep it out of the bedroom or working areas when I do get one.

Unless you shield your living space and block cell phone and Wi-Fi signals, I am not sure wireless charger will really make a difference.
Also, the field is not constantly on, it's only on when the phone is coupled (plus detection pulses). Once the phone is charging, it is blocking most of the EM waves from you. |

You need to remove every single transformer and power supply from your home if this kind of stuff bothers you. Same goes for all fluorescent bulbs with a ballast and all switching power supplies.

I got this one today from Amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/Aukey-Wireless...1008873&sr=1-1 It's small and grippy. Very nice. Now I'll take my chances on a similar, unbranded one from eBay. |
I have the rectangular one with the ((.)) symbol in the middle. It works fine. There are times where it gets 'stuck' and won't charge. I unplug it and then plug it back in and it works. It is erratic.
