rooting an HTC One - help please
 

Folks... Im wondering if anybody here has on-hands experience with Rooting an HTC phone. I have an HTC One handset and want to root it, Ive been having some on & off issues and a friend told me the only chance I have is rooting the darned thing. Else I may have to conclude I have a lemon.

If someone has a good forum and/or other resources to point me towards, as well as sharing their own experience(s) with doing this, it would be greatly appreciated.

search for your device on xda-developers. it's hands down the best place for technical advice for Android devices.

Also.... do I need to get into Custom ROMs..?? I just want to root the phone to remove unneeded bloatware and try to fix my issues, I not tech savvy enough to bother with any detailed or intensive customization of my phone.

Is installing a Custom ROM a requirement if you Root these phones...??

xda is like a Flyertalk for Android devices. Incredible support from other users there. I can't offer anything about your HTC One but I'm sure they can help you.

To respond to you, I've rooted phones before, but never the HTC One. I didn't root the one HTC phone I ever owned, the ThunderBolt, because it was too complicated. But especially this long after the launch of such a popular phone, there are guides all over the web that make it really simple, including some do-it-all kits, where you plug it in, turn on USB debugging, press a button, and viola!

As for Custom ROMs, you can root without custom ROMs. You can't install a Custom ROM without rooting. If I were you, I'd first focus on rooting and making sure it's working properly, and then determine a Custom ROM. There are tons of great ones to choose from.

I rooted with TWRP and I like it a lot.

Google is your friend in this case, as there are so many resources, such as XDA, AndroidCentral, AndroidAuthority, Android Forums, etc.

I have a rooted HTC Amaze 4g without custom ROM.

Absolutely not.

I rooted my Galaxy S4 (took all of 30 seconds) just so I could load Titanium Backup to restore all my apps (and app data), call logs, SMSs, and wifi credentials from the backup I took from the Galaxy S3. I also disabled much of the bloatware on the phone and installed Apex Launcher to hide TouchWiz.

There is no custom ROM out there that supports T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling feature, so I'm stuck using the stock ROM--which, is fine by me.

Not knocking Android, but I found via google multiple solutions for the Moto G and for a newbie, quite a complicated and daunting task. For iPhone, it's a painless 2-3 step process.

Why is that?:confused:

For some Android phones, it really is as easy as downloading an app and pressing the "Root" button.

For other Android phones, it can be a very complicated task. For some odd reason, it appears that popular, less expensive phones (like the Moto G) are more difficult to root. Miss Swede now owns an LG Optimus L9 (a popular, inexpensive phone), and the rooting process is quite complicated--involving a Chinese app and hoping you pressed the right buttons.

Rooting won't solve any of your problems. It doesn't matter what they are, if the stock One won't work well for you, rooting won't work either.

A wipe may help starting from scratch. What problems are you having?
