Suggestions for finding a lost iphone?

Lost my iPhone in a cab in Seattle over the weekend. Called their lost and found - nobody turned in a phone. Does anybody know of an app or anything like that that I could use to try and find the phone? Thanks.

I suppose that means that you did not have it set up with the "find my iPhone" app?

If you are trying to do it after the event you are probably going to have little chance unless you have any remote access technology already installed on the device.

Have you tried ringing the number? The other thing for next time is also something like the "Return Me" app, so that on the locked homepage it gives contact details.

Oh I hear you. Mine was stolen.

Even "find my iphone" didn't help locate it. All that I could do was erase all the info and change all my pass codes.

I can't believe that Apple was so naive as to put this better security into iOS7 (stopping reformatting) and then allowing the thief to put the phone into airplane mode from the lock screen.

Does anyone know whether they have cracked the scheme and allow the phones to be reinitialized fromt he lock screen.

I think either iOS 7.01 or 7.02 disabled Siri putting the phone in airplane mode from the lock screen (she just tells you to unlock your phone first). But the control center will still do it - that's why I disabled control center from the lock screen. Apple should really just remove the airplane mode button from the control center if it's accessed from the lock screen, because it's handy to get the control center from the lock screen.

Still - ldsant, have you tried going to icloud.com on a computer and using Find My Iphone? You should at least put it in lost mode even if you can't find it.

I think the real thieves would just carry some aluminum foil and wrap the phone in it.... instant airplane mode! I read that's how the police does it to protect from criminals remote wiping their seized phones.

Good luck on your iPhone OP. Try icloud like others had said.

I'd be surprised if that actually worked.

Instant airplane mode = turn off the phone and/or take out the SIM

LOL^ I have no idea why I didn't even think about that. So all you really need is a paper clip.
