Prepaid SIM - Turkey
Hi, I may be going to Turkey for 1-2 weeks in a couple of months. Does anyone know whether it is easy to buy a prepaid SIM card when I am there? Also, is there any way I can buy a prepaid SIM card online before going there to avoid the hassle of buying one when I reach there? Thanks and cheers.

Take a look here.

Hi Bensim yes it is very easy to get prepaid SIM at the airport when you landed.there are several shops. i suffet you to buy Turkcell.
|
I purchased a Turkcell SIM card in the IST airport arrivals lounge for USD $30. The guy mumbled something about a 30 minute waiting period and buying Internet access later. After I arrived at the hotel, I found a Turkcell shop - they're everywhere in Istanbul. 500 MB of data costs just under USD $10. Access and speed have been great so far.

If you can wait, it's cheaper to buy in Istanbul then at the airport. They'll need a copy of your passport.

We're headed to Turkey and are trying to figure out the best way to get a data sim either for mifi or to put directly into our iPad. Unfortunately there is conflicting information about whether registration is required for data only device. Some posting I've seen say yes, others no. Does anyone know the real answer?
It just doesn't seem worth the cost and time to register if it's the rule since Turkcell only charges just over 100 Lira for a mifi and registration is supposedly 125 Lira. |
I can't find "official" information about the phone's registration. Can please tell me if it's true I can use SIM with data for 6 o 7 days before they block it for not registrer?
Thanks |
The IMEI blocking process is controversial, your device can be blocked any time after 2 days, but this can take up to 2 weeks.
Here is a detailed information of Turkish sim cards, and some workaround for those who dont want to hassle with paperwork, registration etc. Renting a 3g hotspot device seems the best option for Turkey. I hope this can help you http://prepaidwithdata.wikia.com/wiki/Turkey |
