Data mostly, but would like option to make local calls also if necessary.

Arriving into VIE airport, private transfer to Hotel Intercontinental

Will be looking to find location that can help me with SIM card selection and install either at airport or within walking distance from hotel

Thanks!

there is an shop on the airport. In other Country some shope try to rip of customers...

There is a nice Mall next to the Hotel:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/La...abdc0d8c6c5e0e

But beware dont walk on night-time truth the "Stadtpark" !!!
And print the "3" Page out and mark the offer.
Leave the Shop only after the Simcard work! It take <5Min to Activate the Sim.
NO PERSONAL DATA ARE REQUIRE!!!
Told the Shop personal to Active the "Nimm3 Telefonie" offer who include the Min, MB, SMS.

If you see "3", "3AT" on you Phone go to "Mobile.drei.at" -> Smartphone -> Kundenzone
You see how many Min, SMS, MB you have.

APN: drei.at

EDIT: Can i help you with the Public Transport in Vienna?

There's an A1 shop on the Kaerntner strasse that can fix you up. Looks like their prepaid SIM is up to 15 euros, with 2GB of data and 1,000 minutes of voice and 1,000 texts thrown in.

No issues finding good English-language help in the A1 shop IME. They got me set up and running in less than 10 minutes.

Not sure what you're saying here, but A1 was extremely easy to deal with for me.

A1 have store yes.
The are other operator who have a virtual network only like: BOB, Yesss, Telering, Eety,...

follow up, July 2015

So, thought I'd just follow up for others looking for info in the future.

First, there was a kiosk at the airport with two people soliciting inbound travelers. Not sure what service, but I skipped them since I had info on the A1 on Kaerntner strasse and knew it was close to my hotel.

I went to the A1 as soon as I settled in, and, as reported by MaxBuck, had no issues conversing in English and getting set up within less than 10 minutes. They had the nano SIMs, so no cutting or anything like that.

BFree plan was 9,90 E and gave me 1000 mins. talk' 1000 SMS and 2 GB data.
Only used the data, but it was great. Managed e-mails throughout the trip, did a lot of Google and Yelp research and used various Vienna guides and Apps. Leaving Vienna now and only used 500 MB.

T-mobile and 3 (A1 competitors) also had shops within a couple blocks of the A1 store. Easy to find any.

If you are traveling to other European countries - you may want to check for inter-Europe options. I had an associate come in from London who used 3 as their London provider - apparently 3 has some "friendly" European countries where you can use the 3 service without any additional charges. Austria was one of them, and she was using her phone just as if she was in London.

Thanks for everyone's help!

Please note this Service was shut down for Austrian 3 Customer ~2Years ago.
The Package cost 7,50€/ Month!!
1.000 Minutes
1.000 SMS
1GB

I'm about to travel to Vienna for 4 days, then Prague for another 4. I'd like a prepaid data SIM for my Nexus 5. I most probably won't use more the 100mb/day.

Is there a single SIM at a reasonable cost for both countries? Otherwise, what's the current recommendation? A1 and yesss are the companies I hear most often.

Was just there in July - see post #25 above for my experience with A1/Vienna - can't help on the Prague side

That seems the way to go. More data than I'd use, plus some minutes, text and a €5 start credit I'm rather unlikely to use.

http://shop.a1.net/handys-telefonie/...ProcessType=BF

There seem to be dealers close to my hotel - the A1 stores are not as close. With luck I'll find an English speaker.

Thanks!

BTW, it seems yesss has a similar offer with 3GB for the same price. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...s-Austria.html
