Please create/edit wikis!

I have added Wiki posts to a couple of the existing prepaid SIM threads (UK and USA). Please add to and edit these posts.

The purpose of wiki posts is to provide a "sticky" and editable post that stays on the top of the thread. This wiki post keeps an up to date distillation of the thread's content. THere are many gems in a long thread; the wiki post provides a handy place to put them all so people don't have to read through many pages of posts.

Anyone can create wiki posts! All you need to do is click on a thread, then click Thread Tools, then choose Create a Wikipost.

Please let us know what you think of this handy new functionality.

Just wondering how to edit a wiki post?
Thanks!

Click on the "Edit Wiki"

I can't see such a thing to click. Maybe I haven't made enough postings ... it was to update some info.

If you see an existing wiki, there's a link at the bottom right of the wiki that says "edit." I'm not aware of any limitation of membership/posts for editing wikis (such as exists for viewing Coupon Connection, OMNI, or OMNI/PR)

No, there's nothing. I've looked in every drop-down menu and there's no way I can edit it. Oh well, somebody else will have to edit it. I was intending to do them a favour by compiling new information from the thread into the wiki. I haven't made an enormous number of posts on flyertalk but I've been a member for over two years without any record of unruly behaviour, so I doubt there'd be a reason why I'd be intentionally prevented from editing wikis unless it is something to do with the number of posts made ...

I think you have to have a certain number of posts/account longevity to be able to edit wiki posts.

My apologies - it seems you need to have been a member for at least 90 days (which you have) but have also made at least 90 posts. Breaking News: WikiPosts Now Activate for FlyerTalk Members

Ah ... thanks for clearing up the mystery! :)

90 posts seems a little high. means I have to contribute a lot less meaningul (or not meaningful at all) content just to add useful content.

I mean really, isnt this all about community contribution?

Just because I post a lot doesnt mean I've added value. Please lower the limit.

gfunkdave May 15, 2014 1:33 pm

The idea is more about it being a sign that the member has contributed to the forums. People who pad their post count don't count as contributing in this way. Keep contributing, and you'll be there in no time.

I'd just like to add that regardless of whether you think the 90/90 rule is fair or not, it's very confusing as a new user to not see an edit button for wiki posts with no explanation other than this post and the original wikipost blog article.

+1 redsgt! it's very confusing for any newcomer

Thanks for the feedback. This is managed by Flyertalk, not the moderators. I'd suggest sharing your thoughts in the Tech Support/Feedback forum or PMing Carol, the community director, SanDiego1K.
