Have iPad 3, waiting to see what they come out with.
But also waiting to see what the next 7-inch Nexus tablet is, if they maintain the current prices. I saw a Galaxy Tab 7-inch for like $180-something at Costco. It may be an old model but that's about half the price of a iPad Mini. I'm willing to pay for quality but this is how they catch up on iPad, severely undercutting iPad pricing. |
Stacked up a couple of price matches (and GST refund) to grab an iPad Mini for about 27% below Apple's advertised price here. Picking it up on a Status Run this weekend from the other side of the country.
Currently use a iPad2 with 3G, but have opted for a wifi only mini. I've found I use it more as a ebook-reader when out and about, and a constant data connection is less critical. A pocket wifi router sits in my bag so I can get it online if I absolutely must. Having played around a bit with the mini in the Apple Store, I find it to be a more "appropriate" size for the tablet (regardless of what Steve Jobs might have thought!). |
I did! I actually got my Ipad stolen and then switched to the mini and absolutely love it! I am a minimalist so the less space taken up in my small laptop bag the better. I honestly have not been bothered by the size, even when watching movies.

I have both. The mini is really nice and light, but after using the retina display on the regular iPad, you can definitely tell the difference between the qualities of the screens.

My sister-in-law ditched her ipad 3 for a mini and loves it. Loves the size, loves the weight, isn't bothered by the lower res screen. She always carries it around in her purse, unlike her regular ipad, which was always a decision as to whether or not she wanted to lug it around.

I never had a smartphone and never had a tablet. A month ago, I decided to get a tablet. The Mini just seemed right. I got the ATT model. I just got done using in for 10 days in Europe. I loved it! Usually, I'd drag whatever laptop I had with me. To have the Mini and be able to just slip it in my purse was so much fun. I went to the TIM store in Rome and picked up a nano SIM and 250MB of usage. It couldn't have been simpler - just pop in that SIM, and enter the PIN and phone# and it was all set up! Being able to take spur-of-the-moment photos, find directions, use the Map program on it (not an after-market app) to navigate from Rome to Florence through some country roads in Tuscany, send photos to friends, check up on email, read my Kindle books. It was sooooo much fun! I had no issue with the screen size or it's clarity. It was just fine by me. I can't see that I am missing out on anything by having the Mini rather than the full-size iPad.

Full size has sharper screen but the Mini is easier to carry around.
And it sounds like you used it for turn by turn directions from Rome to Florence using the Maps app.? In that case, the Mini is a better size to use in the car for that purpose. So you got by with only 250 MB in 10 days, including turn by turn for driving? That's pretty good, because the maps may use a lot of data. |
I am waiting for retina display, I'm sure it will be soon

I probably got by with 250 because I used wifi when I was at the hotel and then would put the Mini in airplane mode until I need to use it in 3G mode. That saves usage quite a bit. |
WWDC has come and gone and no new ipad mini. I'm seriously thinking of getting it now. Have a flight to catch today, though. We'll see.

Love my Mini... shame I managed to shatter the screen two days back. The mini allowed me to stop using both my iPhone and Kindle when travelling - work blackberry is required hence not wanting to carry the iPhone with me. I also rarely used my MacBook Air - £220 for a new screen or wait until the new one comes out.... think I may wait!

Wirelessly posted (Apple iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 6_1_4 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/536.26 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/6.0 Mobile/10B350 Safari/8536.25)
Just waiting on the retina display... Then I will buy one instantly. |
I know a lot of Apple fans who first said they wanted a retina mini, then got the current mini and are very happy with it.
Part of it may be that a smaller screen will seem sharper than a larger screen with the same resolution. |
Coming from the iPhone 5 and a retina MacBook, I found the resolution on the Mini excruciating and returned it. But I did love the size, and can't imagine ever purchasing another 10 incher again -- for my usage purposes they are just too unwieldy.
Have been thinking about giving the Note 8 a go, although the price tag is still way too high ($399 new.) I can't help but wonder if the 'mid-size' tablet market is going to explode this fall. But I am tech impatient. |
