Boarding pass barcode scanner for iPhone?

Title is fairly self-explanatory. I would like an iPhone app that can read most boarding pass barcodes.

Thought this would be easy to find, but for some reason I can't find one.

Any help would be appreciated!

Manatee and Qrafter

I was chasing the same thing a little while back and really, really struggled to find an app that could decode the barcodes on my boarding passes.

Eventually I came across this site which I ended up just bookmarking on my iPhone and I use that:

http://www.datasymbol.com/barcode-re...e-decoder.html

It takes a little bit of getting used to as far as how much of the barcode to get into the picture, lighting etc but it most definitely does work.

Where it says 'Choose file' when you select that on the iPhone it gives you the option of taking a new photo and the option above that which says 'Show result as', I select as text.

Hopefully that'll help you out!

Manatee and Qrafter

Clearly I wasn't looking in the right place, that Manatee app works a charm!

Manatee is my favorite. Works everytime. Qrafter a close second.

Boarding Pass Scanner App

My wife made a boarding pass scanner app for me, and I thought the FT community might find it useful as well. Right now it's iOS only (any interest in Android?)

It's a simple utility, but you all will probably appreciate it. Using the camera on your iPhone/iPad, you scan the bar code on your boarding pass. What's different from other barcode scanners out there (such as Manatee Scanner) is that the Boarding Pass Scanner understands the format of bar coded boarding passes and interprets the data. For example, you can easily check to see if you have TSA Pre√ (look for a '3' in the Selectee Status field). You can also quickly email the flight information. I think this is very useful during IRROPS - when you get a new boarding pass, you can send your new flight info to friends/family quickly and accurately - just zap the barcode and click email.

To download: iTunes link - Boarding Pass Scanner

Her website: Boarding Pass Scanner

I can pass feedback/feature requests/bugs on to her if you post here, or you can email through the app.

This isn't intended as a commercial message - I've been looking for an app to do this for a while, figured other FTers might enjoy it as well.. Don't think this is the next FT 'snapchat' post ;)

That's pretty cool, actually. Airline boarding passes (at least, the UA, AA, and DL ones) now say "TSA Precheck" or the equivalent if you get it, which was the only reason I wanted such an app.

We have seen reports of some boarding passes with a Precheck indicator, but not granting Precheck access (I think in the UA forum, this was mentioned a couple times). But it's hard to know how much is based on the bar code encoding, and how much is random TSA "layers."

I have once received a boarding pass that indicated Precheck, but the bit was not set in the barcode (reprinted at a kiosk and it was all set).

I have also (still) received some boarding passes that don't indicate Precheck in text, but do encode it in the barcode.

So this should help take some of the confusion away...

I would love this kind of thing to be tied into the website I use (flightdiary.net) to track all my flights. Would make it so much easier.

Bought, downloaded, tested three times on a UA boarding pass from last week.

App just crashes while try to capture barcode :(

Deleting now.

Sounded intriguing, but glad it was only $.99

Thanks for fixing that - too many high-profile acquisitions going on recently.

We'll look at if there's a way to integrate with flightdiary.net.

cblaisd - that's not good We got the crash reports from the app and it looks like there's something weird about how the date was encoded on your boarding pass; and for some reason the normal error handler didn't catch it. For privacy, the app does not send any of the info back

I'll send you a PM - if you can send a clear picture of your boarding pass bar code, I'm sure it can be fixed fairly quickly.

Thanks. I received your email.

I'm sure you can understand my reluctance to send a scan of my bp to you given that it has my FF #.

Hope you can find another way to fix the problem. Thanks.

You should consider making this app free, in exchange for the good press you'll receive, and the # of downloads it'll get.

Here's a good analysis:
