Your charger says it will work, I'd believe it. If you plugged a 110v charge into a 230v outlet, the chargerwould die, but the phone would probably be ok.

OP, your O.E.M. charger made by LG will work just fine, save your money & now you can make a few more calls with your unlocked Sim card abroad on 220/240 power.
I got a drawer full of good old "dumb" working spare phones, some of them 5+ years old on GSM band by Motorola, Nokia, LG and Sony - and all of them are dual voltage, auto-sensing & auto-switching and never had a problem overseas. And, when we go on cruises - take advantage of the 220 outlets as 110v outlets are limited and plug devices like laptop & charger into 220's. First connect the charger to the wall outlet - even better if you have a travel sized surge protector as in-between - then connect it to the phone. 99.8% of the time, it works and no surprises. If you are still super-worried and cautious, see if the bathroom outlets are GFIC protected (it's not universally adopted) and use the adapter - the worst is that it will fried/smoke the charger and/or trip the circuit breaker. |
Sony
Not completely disposable, but a small unit that can be used with any AA batteries, including rechargeable or disposable ones, to charge your phone. There are probably other similar units from other manufacturers.
Sony makes something called a CP-AH, which is two parts - a charger for 2 x AA NiMh batteries and a second part which actually charges the phone. Costs about $15. The part that charges the 2 NiMh AAs is junk, and the 2 AA NiMh batteries included with the unit are also junk(only 1000 mAh). The phone-charger part, however, can also use better quality NiMh rechargeables or any generic alkaline AAs to charge your phone, and that part works great. I take along a couple high-quality Sanyo AA Eneloop NiMh batteries (charged in a better charger) in the phone-charging part. It will bring my iPhone5 from near 0 to near a full charge in about 1/2 hour. |

Okay, here's what I've copied verbatum from the wall plug of my standard LG charger that came with the cellphone, and which still works fine here in Canada and the U.S. :
INPUT: 100 - 240 V 50/60 Hz 150-100 mA OUTPUT: 4.6V____800mA (note that there are 3 dashes under the solid line above, don't know if that means anything). So reading that, I'd guess that maybe the wall charger I now have might work in the UK with the 3 pin plug for the UK we already have. BUT....also on the same wall plug is a CAUTION sticker that reads that for foreign use outside of the U.S. I should check for more info in my phone's manual. So back to the drawing board to read through the manual again to see if I can find the information on foreign useage. Found the manual online, so I'll start checking the many pages again there, as it's easier and faster to thumb through that way. bj-21. |
Thanks, everyone!
The preponderance of affirmative replies that I shouldn't be such a worrier (sorry, that just me, I try to plan ahead for all possibilities) has put my mind at ease about my wall plug charger being safe and not frying the cellphone when we're in the UK for ten days later this year. Got a UK SIM, just have to load it with time when we get there and we'll be good to go. Many thanks. bj-21. |
