which email server/service do you use?
I have a domain which has its mx record pointed to google apps to handle all my email. it has worked great for several years and the last few months its been acting up. errors syncing with my iphone, outlook 2011 and such. won't let me send attachments bigger than 20-something megs.
So now i'm on a new search with hopes of a better provider and was curious if anyone knew something better out there. Free is ideal if possible, I'll pay if necessary to avoid the inconvenience. I tried outlook.com but they don't offer IMAP because its running on old hotmail servers. Any better suggestions? thanks in advance. |
have had great success with rackspace email
attachments of 20+ megs are pretty big though...I use Google Apps email and it's been fine for me, but I also use Rackspace email. |
Rackspace for me as well. 25 GB but not free.

being a user of both gmail and rackspace, what makes rackspace that much better than gmail? which do you use more often?
|
Ensure your configurations are correct. iPhones in particular are known to corrupt the configured mail accounts from time to time.
I use multiple Google Apps and Gmail accounts on my iPhone and have never had a problem. |
I've run DIY email servers since forever.
I'm currently using a reserved micro instance at Amazon running Ubuntu. About $6 a month, and it's available for travel VPN, private web server, light computing ... |

Rackspace is very, very good if you want something other than Google that is business strength. |
fastmail and tuffmail.

There is another thread on here with instructions on migrating your domain to outlook.com. I plan on doing this in the next few months, especially since the free version of Google Apps has now been shutdown. |
Personally, I'd try and figure out why Google isn't working right. I've been with them for years, and it has been perfect. I do pay the $5/month for their "premium" version, but I don't think that makes a difference in quality.

Running with an old msn.com email address that for some reason doesn't seem to be charging me any fees. Works fine from home using Outlook Hotmail connector and from my iPhone & WP8 phone.

I like Hotmail, especially with the SkyDrive feature that's linked to the same account/login. Very convenient. Plus I use Skype, which is now a Microsoft product as well.
And this is coming from a Mac/iPhone user. :) Not that I have anything against Google, I just don't use any of their products (except for maps though I hear Nokia has a great app out...). |
@pseudosuede : I'd like to know what your server settings are for getting imap working with outlook.com I tried using them previously but wasn't able to figure out/find information on their imap. I was only able to find and get working pop3 access.

You can migrate all of your Hotmail accounts to outlook.com, then use IMAP to connect to it.

It appears it is not possible for personal e-mails/domains. |
