Warning about Google Chrome
Lately, I noticed that Chrome as hanging up on some websites and it appeared to be waiting for something called "optimizely.com." I little internet research revealed that this is a scripting issue, so I attempted to install the scriptno extension. However, it wouldn't not install, and hung on "checking." I uninstalled Chrome, had it delete its stored parameters on install (I've set chrome to sync with my other computers, so nothing was really lost), and reinstalled. This time scriptno installed just fine, and Chrome is back to its speedy self.
I have no idea what is obviously malware came from, nor why my various anti-malware programs didn't stop it, but it was an easy fix. If Chrome is running strangely for you, you might try a complete uninstall and reinstall -- it doesn't take long. |
It's not malware, it's code you put on your website so you can present several different versions of the website and see which works better. It's like real time focus groups.
Some people will see one website, some will see a different version, and by tracking how long they stayed, how many pages they visited, if they bought something, etc you will learn which website works better for you. It's standard A/B testing that has been around in marketing for hundreds of years, just implemented online. The company was actually started by two former Google people. It's not checked for because there's no reason to stop it. |
Maybe so, but it was dragging down some websites until I blocked.

To clarify - optimizely is on the sites you were visiting, not something built into your browser. |

But how is this related to Chrome? The two points (some websites you were visiting used this service to track visitors and it was operating slowly) and technical issues with Crome / your computer appear to be unrelated, from what you describe.

I understand that optimizely is on some websites. However, it dragged down Chrome, but not Firefox or IE.
Don't keep blaming something for problems with your installation. |

Again, the problem was not with with the software, it was with your installation of chrome.
