Kindle Fire HDX is definitely impressive. Higher resolution and ppi than Retina, and the price is a huge selling point. They're banking on you spending money on the content and services as opposed to just making money on the hardware.

Seems like Amazon is taking a page from T-Mobile's book and is offering Kindle Fire purchases spread over four months interest free.

Amazon quietly released a slew of new products today:

6" Kindle Fire HD (1280x800 resolution)
7" Kindle Fire HD (updated specs)
Kindle Fire HD for Kids (6" & 7", comes with 2-year ADH warranty, 1 year of FreeTime, and a goofy case)
8.9" Kindle Fire HDX (updated specs)
Non-Paperwhite Kindle
Kindle Voyage (higher resolution display)

The new Kindle Voyager looks interesting. Since I moved to a Paperwhite, I've missed the page turn buttons on the side of the casing. The Voyager looks to add those back with some sort of haptic touch mechanism.

I'd like to be able to hold the device and turn the page without moving my thumb - I often drop the darn thing when trying to read one-handed!

Strange that there is no fanfare.

Their last event was the Fire phone, which seems not to be selling too well.

For Christmas season, you'd think they'd want to tout this updated lineup.

Unless they have something else planned.

Turns out the name is Kindle Voyage (no "r"). May be helpful to know when searching for reviews.

That Kindle Fire HD for Kids looks kind of promising. 2 year no questions asked warranty at $149 for the 6"? I am not a big fan of the Kindle launcher, but I might get one for the little one come Christmas.

Basically an extra $50 from the base Kindle for a no questions asked warranty and foam case. I am guessing it will be 8GB and hopefully no ads.

Thanks for the heads up on these.

My "Kindle" has been my Galaxy S 5 since I got it in February - one less device to take with me on the plane. With the rise of the phablet I see even less need for a dedicated book reader.

I've tried to read with iPad, iPhones, even kindle on my MacBook but nothing comes close to the actual Kindle device[s].

Started off with keyboard Kindle years back, then moved to Paperwhite recently. The latter was even better but I returned it to amazon before the 30 day trial period, in anticipation of the newer Voyage coming out....can't wait to get my hands on it end of next month!

Some folks prefer the tablet, others prefer the kindle .... YMMV :)

Yup! I have an iPad for videos/movies/internet and a Kindle for reading.

I just pre-ordered the Voyage for Mrs CRAZ8 and I - expected delivery is October 29

Because the internet is not reading?

Reading Books and reading the Internet are different enough that two devices work better for me than a single one. It helps that the Kindle Paperwhite is very light and the battery lasts for days - both things improved in the new Kindle Voyage.

+ 1 ^. I may replace my phone one more time while I keep my tablets but after that it is likely to be phablet plus very possibly... a feature phone for occasional use, if such will exist on 4G.

The debate has been ongoing since both type of devices have been around, at the end of the day, it's really a matter of personal choice. For example, #1 son dumped his S2 and iPad2, got a Note3. But he refuses to part with his kindle3G with keyboard, even after 4 yrs of abuse.

Many, like you swear and prefer the tablet. Others like the kindle.

:)

This. I use my phone for reading books a fair bit and it's much easier to read on the Kindle with much better battery life as well.
