Power cord at home - help!
Just got to airport and realize that I forgot the charger for my Lenovo think pad T420S. Where can I buy one on the road? Who carries these?
Thanks! |
Ugh, that sucks.
I'd suggest checking Radio Shack, Staples, Best Buy...or just have someone at home overnight it to you. |
Universal chargers are available at a variety of places - big-box office stores (Staples, Office Depot), computer stores (Microcenter, etc), possibly large discounters (Target, Wally World), Radio Shack, and places like Best Buy. If you're going through a major airport, you might even find a "tech" vendor there that can sell one (at an inflated price, in many cases).

Good luck jefftf1, BTW, I have a thinkpad docking station I no longer need so if anyone would like to get one on the cheap, PM me. - |
If you are staying at a hotel on the trip, ask at the front desk. Many have boxes of chargers left behind. While finding one for a think pad is a long shot, somebody may have left one. You can probably pick up a few Cell phone ones though.
Radioshack will have some in the $35 to $50 range, and as mentioned the other stores will have them too. You want to make sure there is a tip for your machine included or you will need to buy one of those too. Pricing will be all over the place, so hope one of them is on sale or something. If there's a Best Buy Kiosk or one of the electronic / cell phone stores in the airport, chances are there will be some there. |

and are far more expensive than I thought they'd be, I expected ~$15-20, all I saw were in the $50-$100 range. My need wasn't urgent so I skipped buying one. Never used a universal adapter, so I'll pick one up and just bring my laptop along to make sure they have a tip that fits. |

Willie, any chance you can deliver that docking station to JFK in a few hours during my layover?

Here's some handy information: you need a 20v charger with a 7.4mm x 5.0mm plug. Any amperage is OK. Even my T420 (integrated) charges from a 65W.

It won't help you right now, but if you want to pick up some extras (say, one to keep in the bag, one to leave at home, one for the office, etc) sometimes they'll show up in the CDW outlet for cheap. I picked up 5 of the 65W Thinkpad adapters for about $20 each a couple of months ago. As of today looks like they have 90w, 170w, etc also available for much less than retail.
As with anything B-stock, its best to contact the reseller to inquire as to why its being sold in the outlet. |
