StraightTalk has a $25/month data-only plan. 750MB allowance.

You could use Skype or GrooveIP as your phone client.

T-Mobile has a $30 per month plan for 100 minutes, unlimited SMS and MMS, and unlimited data (5GB at HSPA speed). This plan is only available through Walmart (http://instoresnow.walmart.com/tmobile.aspx) or T-Mobile's online activation.

dont want to pay for text

I threw that one out there because for $5 more than StraightTalk's plan, you get over 6x of high speed internet among other things.

where you will be using it is as important (if not more) than price.
Sometimes a carrier's higher fee justifies their network.

It's been a few months since I've been plan-shopping, but it seems the vast majority of options have unlimited text.

yeah, im about the only person who doesnt text. i turned it off on my phone because of the ridiculous situation in the US where you pay for receiving spam. obviously unlimited text eliminates that problem, but id rather not have that included in the plan.

if there was something with limited talk and limited data for pretty cheap, i might consider switching from major carrier.

im constantly surprised by how much plans have changed each time i look. (besides the major carriers, although they change quite a bit as well.)

I would imagine with any of the plans with unlimited texting, a quick phone call to the provider can disable receiving text messages.

Kagehitokiri Mar 30, 2012 5:32 pm

right but youre still paying for it. was just wondering if there is anything cheap out there.

seems like not yet.

pseudoswede Mar 30, 2012 8:13 pm

Text messaging is such a high-margin product for cell phone companies (something ridiculous like $0.00002 per text) that they will always include it.

Kagehitokiri Mar 30, 2012 9:25 pm

but they dont.. major carriers have it as add on. and virgin paylo is "only" 1500 messages.

Hi would this work on a unlock iphone4/4s gsm? and is it possible to use it just for one month? do we still have to buy a additional phone?

It is valid for 30 days after you activate it.

The question is whether Wal-Mart carries microSIM cards to use for this plan. Otherwise, you will need a microSIM cutter to make it work in your iPhone.

In addition, you will only get EDGE speeds.

You could try StraightTalkSIM for $45 and get 3G speeds. http://www.straighttalksim.com
