Google shuts down ITA Needlebase
 

Google has announced to shut down ITA software's Needlebase, effective June 1st. Will that inhibit/destroy the ITA matrix as well? I LOVE that flight search engine and never seen anything like it elsewhere.

Welcome to FT. I hope Google don't nobble it either as it is my first choice of flight search engine.

Google seems to show that they are two separate products with Needlebase being a search of wider forms of data.

according to google, they are shutting down needlebase that was acquired during the ita deal but no mention of ita..highly doubt they'll shut down ita though.

But maybe the ITA Matrix depends on ITA Needlebase?

From what I know - and I'm far from expert - a number of the Needlebase capabilities effectively "compete" against Google's core products. I suspect they're incompatible, and I suspect Google has enough invested their core that there's no point in continuing to develop this. Much better to drive folks to Google's other tools.

Whilst I'd stop short of calling Google "evil", I would say that they're not exactly Snow White, either.
