File Comparing utility
The only way I know of comparing files is FC in DOS. I used it a lot in my programming days, which was mostly in FORTRAN, BASIC, C, C++ and Pascal.
I have also quite a bit of OOP coding but do not recall do not remember if FC would be able to compare files written an OOP language. It's been quite a few years since I have done any programming.
I have multiple versions of many files. I am trying to sort through my old data and need an FC or a diff utility.
Can someone recommend a good free utility for comparing files?
Thanks in advance.

WinMerge is the best free tool I've used for Windows; kompare for Linux.
If you're doing any programming, the Eclipse IDE has a good diff tool that also integrates easily with any type of version control system you might end up using.

I use Ultra Compare (and Ultra Edit). It will compare files in directory hierarchies. Not free but you can download and trial for 30 days.
When I need a free compare util, I use Diffuse.
