I was asking because it looks very simplified, and I'm not sure VPN configuration is always that simple. So I was wondering if anybody had any real experience with it yet.

All you can choose is a secret phrase and a range of IP addresses. In the docs, they suggest you use a different range of IP addresses than your network uses. I guess you would have to forward that range from your router to the vpn server.

I imagine there's enough there to get a mac client running LION to connect to a mac server running LION, so at least that's something.

Like pdxer said, getting a VPN running is very hard, time consuming, and expensive. The easiest way is to utilize a free service like LogMeIn Hamachi.

LogMeIn works great on the Mac, just as good as it does on the PC and for a single home user, it's free and you don't have to mess with your router/firewall settings to get it to work. As long as it has port 443 (https/ssl) outbound, which 99.9% of the home routers (linksys, etc) have, you are good to go!

And you can reach it from a remote PC or Mac, too, and there is a pay client for the iPad and iPhone.
