CNN live streams to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Saw this on CNN the other day and where I don't have any of the devices but goalie-mom has an iPod touch, I set it up for her and she loves it (and to use her words....."now that is cool").

There is one caveat however and that is you must have an on-line account with one of the cable companies listed* and use your log-in for that account to log in on your idevice. The streaming quality was very very good and just about 30 seconds off of what was on the tv.

Just thought I share and now all I have to do is figure out how to connect the iPod touch to their new HD tv.....

*goalie-parents do not have cable but I do so all I did was set up my account and they use my info to log-in on the iPod touch ;).

According to the "updates" listing on the App store, CNN live broadcasts require AT&T U-Verse, Comcast, Cox, Dish or Suddenlink. Which should cover most cablecos in the US and Canada, I think.

You should be able to hook an I-device to an HD TV with the Apple Digital AV Adapter. I have one, but haven't actually used it yet so can't comment on the effectiveness.

Unfortunately you think wrong.

Only ~40-50 million U.S. subscribers are covered by the approved providers.

The ~50 million subscribers with DirecTV, Time Warner, Bright House, Charter, and Cablevision, etc. are SOL.

There are others too. I have RCN cable.

Thanks for this ^ and I'm gonna read the manual for goalie-parents' tv and then see if it will work (tho it's a 2nd generation iPod touch so I'm not sure but we'll see)

Ah, I don't believe this dongle will work with that. However, and I can't speak from experience, I believe some of the earlier generation iPods can use an adapter with older-style red/white/yellow RCA AV cable, which many newer TVs still accept. You might be able to find one of these on eBay.

Thanks for the heads up ^ as I'm heading to the Apple Store later today so I'll ask
