Suggestions for Exchange functionality on Android phone?

I finally took the plunge and got an Android phone Saturday. I got an HTC Droid Incredible 2. Before going further, a confession. A few months ago I was arguing with someone on another thread and saying that it is easy to set up Exchange mail on an Android phone. But I was wrong it seems. True enough, it set up quickly, but it doesnt work right in my hands. So while there are some things I love about the phone, the Exchange issues are close to a show stopper for me. Basically, it partially works. Some folders from my Exchange account (connecting through OWA) show up on the phone but a lot, including some critical ones, dont show up at all. Also, some (most) of my contacts show up on the phone but not all of them. Again, as with the folders it seem random as to what is on the phone and what isnt. As I see it I have a few possible options:

1) Is there some setting or something that will make it work?

2) Take it back and get another Android phone. Will any other work better with Exchange? (has to be Verizon and probably not 4G due to battery issues).

3) Use a third party app. I dont mind this if need be. Im currently testing Touchdown. If I use it should I shut down the Active Sync on the phone completely? If so will it integrate calendar and contacts with the phone apps? It doesnt seem like Touchdown snagged all the contacts either when it synced but I could be wrong about that. Need to check.

4) Another third party app. I am open to suggestions.

5) Give up - return to BB 9650 (ack! there are some things I REALLY like about the HTC. Would hate to give up).

I did searches with The Google. These seem to be know issues with HTC phones at least from what I can tell. But I havent been able to find any fixes. Thanks for any suggestions.

I ended up using Moxier Mail on my tablet. My Atrix had no problems, but my Galaxy Tab 10.1 had a terrible time seeing all my folders. I bought, but ceased using, the Exchange by touchdown app. Too awkward.

This was on the original Droid.
WHEN I used touchdown It required a bit of tweaking to get everything.
I think by default it only pulled down 1k address and 50kb message size and only sync'd 3 days worth of mail and no sub folders can't recall the calendar options as I didn't use the calendar for more then simple reminders.
After tweaking it I was happy enough to recommend it to co-works and customers.
I agree the Android OS has come along some in the exchange world but it is no BB or WinMO exchange crusader. Even the iPhone is pretty slick in the exchange world.

I have tried several of the third party apps over the weekend and keep coming back to Touchdown. I am shocked at how bad the native app is compared to the iPhone which is my other phone.

Also, not all Android phones are the same. It seems the exchange client on my Motorola phone works great - perhaps it was enhanced with the Motoblur interface? My GF's HTC Incredible and my Samsung tablet both have awful Exchange functionality, though.
