In actuality, it doesn't work anywhere near as expected when setup above. (some might consider it a flaw, I just consider it a pain - but it works)

when one deletes from INBOX, it sits on the mac in deleted items under "on my mac"

If one deletes is THERE, it the gmail mail is actually now in the FOLDER under GMAIL in TRASH. One has to delete it THERE again, to make is delete from GMAIL/TRASH.

THEN, it will appear again in the ON MY MAC TRASH. One has to delete it THERE AGAIN and it is gone.

The problem is, is the tagging. I think deleting from INBOX (on my mac) simply removes the tag INBOX for the gmail mail. Which essentially makes it an archive (as default, or all mail maybe)

Then, it has to have the tag TRASH added to it (or deleted mail maybe)

Then, it appears in GMAIL TRASH as expected, but is also sitting in ON MY MAC TRASH.

If one deletes it from GMAIL TRASH, the TAG of TRASH is removed and it is gone from GMAIL/TRASH/ALL but the delete function of a folder on the mac, even though this is the IMAP folder for GMAIL puts a copy BACK into ON MY MAC DELETED MESSAGES.

GMAIL doesn't care about these, but they have to be deleted once again.

I pretty much just go into gmail online once a month and check SPAM and delete TRASH

just dont throw it out the window when you realize you cant cut and paste files n folders and you'll be fine

Nah, just uninformed Mac lover appreciative of the info.
At the risk of looking even dumber, have you always been able to do this (OSX10.5, .6,)? If its new in Lion, I dont even have Lion installed on most of my computers yet. My faith in my 1-to-1 girl is rocked!

And, to be fair, it is not as smooth and easy as it is on a Win setup, at least not for those of us in the "mouse & click" crowd. Further, that is about the only thing I have ever found that I missed. I have learned to compensate (2 finder windows, etc). Everything else about Mac is nicer for me.

The only Windows function that I can't figure out is the alt + tab to switch to different windows. Command + tab only switches between programs, not windows.

Not new in Lion. Leopard or Snow Leopard, I think.
