iPod newbie question

I have been given an early model iPod (nano?). I have loaded it with some brain entrainment sounds. The tracks sound very similar but aren't. I'm wondering how to tell them apart.

Do the mp3's play in the order displayed when I open iTunes and look at the menu? If I turn off the unit and then on, does the first song play first? (I have shuffle turned off.) Then if I press the forward section of the ring I will get to song two? And even if I turn it off in the middle of song two will it start with song one when I restart it? Or where it left off?

(So far I only loaded two tracks until I can figure this out. I haven't found details anywhere yet.)

try putting the "tracks" in a playlist in the order you want them played and drag the playlist to the device. experiment with that, and I think you will be able to predict the order as long as you don't enable shuffle mode on the ipod.

I'm not sure how to restart it from the beginning of the playlist. That depends on which one you have, I think, but you should be able to find the documentation for it on Apple's website.

It sounds like you have an iPod shuffle. If there is no screen, it is a shuffle. The purpose of the shuffle is that it is suppose to just randomly shuffle your music around while you go on a jog or whatnot. However, if the shuffle feature is turned off (the interlocking arrows switch), the music will play in the order of your shuffle playlist that you created in iTunes to decide which music should be synced to your device. It should stop and restart right where you left off.

iPod Shuffle! There is no screen. I turned shuffle off in iTunes. On the device itself, there is a bar with three indicator positions on the side - off, arrows in a loop, and arrows sort of x'd. The slider bar doesn't engage in that middle position and nothing lights and it's hard to get the bar to go just halfway - according to this half way is the play in order position. Which I was able to find, thank you, because you told me the name of the device!

I don't want it to start where I left off, I want it to start from the beginning of either the first or the second track. I don't find anything about starting from where it left off or not.

So I think if I start it and then it begins to play and I then select the next track it will start the next track at the beginning. And I still won't know if it is track one or track two. OK. I'm trying to do something this wasn't designed to do. I'll fiddle, or see if my granddaughter has outgrown one with a display <smile>.

Thanks for the specific help! I did look for a manual before I asked here and didn't find the answer for this question. And didn't know the 'shuffle' terminology

When you turn the device on it will start from where you were on the track when you turned it off. Unless you are listening to an audio book it should start each track at the beginning each time you listen to that track. If you triple tap the play/pause button when you are not in shuffle mode it should jump back to the first song in the playlist.
