Android Bluetooth pairing
Just tried to connect my Moto Milestone XT720 (Android 2.1 from Cincinnati Bell) with my 2005 BMW X3 without success. It pairs OK but doesn't download the Phone book or connect to the speaker system. I get it paired, it connects with the car, the phone then disconnects from the Cellular system, disconnects from Bluetooth, reconnects to Cellular system and repeats that sequence ad nauseum.
My old Razr works fine so I don't know if it is the Android system, the phone or the wrong phase of the moon. Any suggestions greatly appreciated. Cheers |
It is Bluetooth. Bluetooth is like that.
First step is to check whether there is a firmware update for the BMW system. I had a problem with a Kenwood deck, and a firmware update fixed it. I know Android supports phonebook access, so try re-pairing. If none of that helps, you may be out of luck. |
Ah, and try googling BMW Motorola Droid - it probably uses the same Bluetooth stack, so could be able to help you out.

Thanks Scott. Rooting around the internet reveals this is a common and frustrating problem.

When I rent cars with Bluetooth, I generally try to pair my Android phone (Samsung Galaxy S). In my experience:
- BMW 318 refuses to pair at all. - Infiniti G37 and M37 work correctly for calls and phone book, but refuses to pair for music. - Mercedes (various models) works correctly for calls and phone book, but refuses to pair for music. |
BT is all about profiles and IOP. I would suggest the android stack is a lot more immature compared to a Moto one.
