I realize that this is not a solution if you want to use Firefox, but another alternative is to switch to Chrome and let it do all your bookmark syncing for you seamlessly on all your devices. It was a combination of hassles with getting Xmarks to sync and annoyance with frequent interface changes with Firefox updates that made me switch.

Firefox has had this capability for years, no switch to Chrome needed. It's cross-browser sync support that XMarks offers and others don't.

Ha ha! Guess that just shows how long ago I gave up on Xmarks. Thanks for the clarifications. Funny, I remember it differently. For several years I used to use only Firefox (maybe before it synced bookmarks?), and I thought it was the need to sync bookmarks across computers (not browsers) that got me started using Xmarks. I am probably misremembering and/or didn't grasp how to use Firefox and/or Xmarks correctly. Probably all of the above.
